What is Trackback about?
Trackback is a mechanism that enables two sites to interconnect automatically.
Trackback allows you to notify another site that you wrote something related to what is written on a specific page, even if you don't have an explicit link to this page. This improves the chances of contributors to this page noticing that you gave them credit for something, or that you improved upon something they wrote. With trackback, websites are interconnected. Think of them as the equivalents of acknowledgments and references at the end of an academic paper, or a chapter in a textbook.
Trackbacks have long been a major force in the development of the blogging network, by creating an interconnected series of blogs and posts acknowledging one another. Not only does this improve the general community ethos throughout the "blog-o-sphere", but it also helps to make blogs into more powerful link-exchange tools.
The Trackback principle has migrated from blogs to other publishing platforms such as news content management systems and forums.
What is a Trackback?
A Trackback is simply an acknowledgment. This acknowledgment is sent via a network signal from Site A (originator) to Site B (receptor). The receptor often publishes a back-link to the originator indicating its worthiness.

Note: If the forum administrator requires moderation for Incoming Trackbacks, a link-back to the site originating the Trackback will be published only after the Trackback has been manually approved by a moderator.
Once a Trackback has been published, an automated notification email will be sent to the thread contributors. Threads with recorded Trackbacks will have the following characteristics:
What is a Pingback?
A Pingback is basically the same as a Trackback. From a technical point of view, they both are very different, but these differences are not relevant to us.
So, what distinguishes a Pingback from a Trackback in our everyday use? Easy... Pingbacks require that the originating site posts a link to the receptor site within the text that references the receptor site. Actually, pingback equipped platforms physically check if such link exists in the originating site in order to complete the acknowledgment process.
These differences give Pingbacks two advantages over Trackbacks:
Originating site (apple) may Trackback a receptor site (orange) using a 'Trackback' URL specified by orange. Now, apple may Pingback (link to) orange by referencing the following URL(s) in a common paragraph:
On a Pingback equipped forum, incoming Pingbacks that reference individual posts will be identified accordingly in the Ping/Trackback table:
You can Pingback other sites from Auto Banter
Pingback another site from our forums by simply including an outgoing link within your post.
