Fine 'scratch' marks on bonnet by Steve
Hi, whilst my car was parked up at the local multiplex some ******* kids from the bowling alley next door have obviously leant up against my bonnet and left some fine scratch marks on the bonnet. Not deep enough to expose the metal but visible if you look. I know about T-Cut but am not confident in using it. Would a bodyshop do the job for me? How do you go about finding a reputable one. I...

Antifreeze & Coolant by Donald Graham Cree
I checked my coolant/antifreeze lately on my J Reg Polo Mk3 Coupe and they are getting low. My car uses the "Blue" coolant/antifreeze. I phoned the local VW Dealer and he only had "PINK" (£4.50/Ltr) which he said was "Universal" and could be happily mixed with the "BLUE". I understood that the Blue and Pink were different for some reason and could not be mixed - anyone have experience of...

VW servicing breakdown by john
Can anyone tell me what work should be done by a VW garage on a Golf 150 PD TDI on variable servicing? The car is on an 03 plate so has been 1 yr 7mths & 13,000 miles before it needed servicing. I took it in recently & was charged approx £230 but to be honest I have no idea what they have done apart from obvious items like top up the screenwash and the coolant. Oh yes they did give it a clean as...

82 Cabriolet 5 speed by D.DeGregorio
Hi all, My son just got is first car, a 1982 Cabriolet. It's a fine little car, well cared for and just a blast to drive, but tonight the linkage on the five speed failed. We're stuck in the 3rd/4th gate. I havent seen the tranny inside, but I'd bet its similar to the regular manual topshifts I've worked on in the past. Does anyone have a picture, a diagram or a breakdown of this tranny that I...

Oh blow it! by Angus Manwaring
Hi all, Just before a fairly long journey with three heavy breathing adults, and bucket loads of rain, my Golf Mk III's fan blower decided to stop working. I checked the fuse which appears to be fine, and had a poke around under the bonnet looking for bad connections and loose connectors -without success. Can anyone suggest likely faults or possible solutions?

Mk2 Gti binnacle lights by Mark White
After removing the instrument binnacle from my 8v Gti, single plug type, to fix the non meshing gear wheels that had stopped the odometer/trip meter from working, the three lights that illuminate it have stopped working. The light that illuminates the computer display works and the bulbs are ok and seated correctly. I can't see any breaks in the printed circuit foil and all other functions work....

Need a recon head for my GTI :-( by Tunafish
Drove home today like I was a member of the Red Arrows - blue smoke trail behind every time I pressed the accelerator pedal! Also, one or two tappets are getting very lazy in the mornings. Anyone have any tips for good places to get recon cylinder heads from from in the UK? C&R and TSR are a little more than I want to pay...car is a '91 PB engine. Cheers, ---Steve

Tyres by AndyR
If anyone's trying to get hold of Toyo T1-S Proxes or even the newer T1-R's the only place I've seen them is at www.camskill.co.uk and so far their customer support has been excellent, I've had 2 phonecalls from them discussing delivery and feedback and the tyres (T1-R's) should be delivered tomorrow! Seems Mytyres.net (or .co.uk now) don't stock the T1-S anymore! Oh... They're £48 for T1-S and...

Passat - replace centre console by d
Hi folks, I have a Passat that has 2 standard sized holes for the Radio head unit and the climatronic and underneath is a cubby hole. I bought a single VW CD unit and to fit it I need to remove the console interior and replace it with one with 3 unit holes. I think the actual process is pretty easy - there's a lot of guys on the forums changing the consoles to the wood type but any idea where I...

oil for variable servicing ? by Mike
My tdi is set for variable servicing, which seems to come around at 13,000+ miles or so. Given that i do a 10 mile commute twice a day at an average of 10-12 mph with loads of stop/starts, i usually change the oil myself after 6/7000 miles last time I did this, the only oils available for a 90hp TDI on variable servicing were whatever the dealer sells and castrol longlife slx II - does anyone...

handbrake? whats a handbrake? by Kavvy
After a year of doing up my 75K Mk2 Golf GL to a state that I would consider very, very nice condition, it only took an idiot with no concept of what a handbrake is for a few seconds to "accidentaly slip of the pedal" and ram me from behind reducing my bumper and part of my boot to a crumpled mess. Why do we bother eh? I'm worried now because the book value of a 90 GL Golf is only about...

2.0 136bhp TDI PD - Worries by Nik
Hello, I have a 1 year old VW Touran (New funny shaped MPV thing).... But it blows out some serious black smoke if you hammer it. My concern is that it uses the new 2.0 16valve TDI which is Euro-4 compliant and is fitted with an exhaust particulate filter (Soot strainer)... Any body else got a car with this engine?, is it normal for black smoke clouds to come out? It does this when hot or...
