engine oil TDI PD by
sanj.varah
hi,
I've got a golf tdi pd and in the manual it says that i have to use longlife
oil to benefit from flexible service intervals, I have some of that and its
expensive stuff Castrol SLX, but seeing as I change my oil more frequently
than given by the manual (every 6000 miles) it says I could use another spec
of oil, multi lubricity or something like that.
I have phoned up duckhams, mobil and...

Gearbox Oil by
Alex Hopwood
I drained the oil on my 02A gearbox a few weeks ago whilst fixing a problem.
The oil that came out was a stinking dirty brown colour. I replaced the oil
with a non VW semi synthetic but didn't like the whining that seemed to
appear so changed it for VW G50 synthetic oil (liquid gold judging by the
cost !). The semi synthetic was only in there for 3 weeks but was as dirty
brown as the original...

Passat viscous fan removal? by
Ian Austin
Hi,
I am currently replacing the cam belt on my 1997 passat diesel 1.9 TDI
(110hp) (AFN engine). It's a big job but has been straightforward until I
came to remove the viscous fan hub. I am using the Haynes manual and a
friendly local mechanic for advice. The method shown in the manual might
work if I knew whether the 8mm hex mounting bolt was right or left hand
threaded. As the fan rotates anti...

2002 Passat TDI 130 PD Auto by
Witchy
Hi folks,
After pondering on moving to a Passat auto owing to doing 1000 miles a
week (current car is a Passat 110 TDI sport estate) my hand's been
forced after a young ****ed **** smashed into the back of it early on
saturday morning, and since he's ripped the offside back
wheel/suspension off and compressed that side of the car by an inch or
two I'm assuming it's toast :(
Anyone driven the...

Golf Mk IV - access to rear wiper motor by
me
Anyone know how the trim comes off inside the tail gate of the Mk IV Golf?
The rear washer is dumping liquid in the boot/on the parcel shelf and I need
to look at the pipe feeding the rear wiper assembly. I can't budge the trim
though to have a look.
Many thanks,

'90 Mk2 golf 16v.. ..rear shocks by
Chris
hello all,
I will be replacing the rear shocks/springs on my '90 golf gti 16v. I
want to keep std ride height. Anyone recommend a place that will sell
uprated springs that sit at std ride height - not lowered?
I will be going with AVO adjustables on the back after having good
results with them on my E30 325i. Is there anything else I should replace
at the same time? The BMW had a...

Re- Tyres- Toyo Proxy T1-R by
AndyR
Had my T1-R's on now for a few weeks and am well impressed with them.
Compared with the T1-S that were on the front the newer R's outperform them
in all respects (IMHO) and I was impressed with the S's! I have a safe local
reverse camber left hander that I use for testing grip and the S's would
give a slight controlled understeer whereas the R's are spot on. Also in the
wet at T junction pullouts...

Newer Golf-advice please? by
tarquinlinbin
I currently own a Golf Mk3 1800 CL reg 1992. Its the AAM single point
injection engine and has been a damn good car. I'm considering
changing it and what i have in mind is a mk4 golf TDI. I have heard
rumours and anecdotal evidence that the mk3 was the last of the well
built solid golfs and that the mk4 onwards are not as well built and
are unreliable in some aspects. I even spoke to a guy who...

Golf GTi MK2 8v 89 Rear Brakes by
Oliver Robinson
The hand brake/emergency brake has gone (again) on my 1989 Golf GTi 8v. From
looking at previous postings it looks like it is possible to fit MK3
calipers which should last longer. Can anyone confirm/deny if this is true,
whether anything else is required (e.g. discs, brake pipes etc), what is the
procedure etc.
Thanks,
Oliver

Golf mrk 2 PCD fitment advice by
REMUS
Hi i'm new to the group and I really need some quick advice please, I am
thinking about buying some alloys, ok I know the standard VW PCD fitment is
100, but i've also seen it mentioned that the 4 stud vw style is compatible
with audi's fitment.
Now my dilemma is I have seen some alloys I really like, BUT they are
advertised as PCD 4x108 : / and being compatible with audi but no mention...

Advice on Golf 1.9 TDI mk3 by
Einar Vollset
All,
I would appreciate some advice.
I've just bought a 1995 1.9 (90bhp) golf. It's got a full
VW service history, had its cambelt changed at ~72000miles
(it's now at 115000), and drove fine from London to Newcastle
yesterday. Set me back £1500, had its last service in july.
The girl I bought it off seemed honest, but she obviously hadn't

Polo 1.4 CL (1997 R) by
Roger
Hi
I recently purchased a Polo 1.4 cl 5 door hatch, very pleased with the car.
just noticed though that when you are in 5th gear and take your foot of the
accelerator there is a very quiet (hardly noticable) sort of a whine, this
goes as the
engine revs drop. it does not make this sound in any of the other gears,
also does not make the noise when driving along, only when you take your
foot of...

Gear box swap? by
badboyz
I wonder if anyone can help. I have a 1984 1.6 diesel T25. Is it possible
to change the 4 speed box for a 5 speed one without to much difficulty?
Also if anyone has done this what increase does it have in top speed ? what
are the ratios of the gears? I don't mind travelling along at 50mph but its
a bit of a drag to get to Newquay from north Notts.
Regards,
John

T reg polo electric window problem by
KingStew
The drivers side electric window on my T reg (1999) polo has stopped working
suddenly. Worked fine one day, dead the next. The passenger side works fine
and there was no apparent problems leading up to the failure.
I'm thinking it is probably a wire come loose but I dont know what I'm doing
so need to take it to a garage (mostly beacuse the wiring appears
inaccessable!). Is it an easy job...

golf problem by
Bryn Jones
My Mk4 1.6s 16v has been back to the main stealers twice recently to have a
fault diagnosed.....it basically judders, mostly noticeable at a constant
35-40 in 4th. I've had the tracking done, the wheels balanced and had it
test driven by my sister, my best mate and twice by VW technicians.
Everybody has noticed the judder except the two technicians. Any idea what
might be causing it? The car has...
