mk3 golf - power steering prob?? by Garry Mumford
I have a mk3 golf gti 16v. I have had a problem where on two separate occasions, both turning right and both when it has been raining. Basically I have been mid way through a right hand bend and the power steering has just stopped working. The steering goes really stiff as if the engine is switched off. Anyone any ideas?

oil in the air filter housing by Stephen McAleer
I recently changed the air filter on my 1991 golf driver 1.6 and found that there was some oil in the bottom of the filter housing and along the bottom edge of the filter itself. The oil appears to have come from the breather pipe. Is this a sign of engine wear (it has done 175k miles now) or is there a breather filter under the rocker cover that needs replacing? -- Stephen McAleer, Mid...

2000 TDi ECU - what's it worth? by DCA
I bought another ECU a while back from a 2000 Sharan 1.9 TDi (110) I actually found the fault prior to swapping this out so it never got fitted! What's it worth to anyone? VW 028 906 021 JJ Bosch 0 281 001 967 I'd guess that if I find someone whose got a bust one it's worth a bunch - but there you go! Thanks David

VR6 Dashpot by Alex Hopwood
Anyone know why VW stuck the dashpot thing on the throttle assembly for the VR6 engine. It's the bit the throttle rests against when closed, has a diaphram and plunger. Seems to just make the throttle close more slowly for the final few mm of travel, probably to give the idle stabilisation valve time to sort itself out before the engine dies. But is there any other subtle reason for being there ?...

Hesitating 90BHP 1995 Golf TDI by JackH
Hi all. I recently bought a 1995 Golf TDI, and it has to be said that overall, this car has *really* impressed me. The only fly in the ointment a such, is every now and again, it decides to slightly 'kangaroo'. This normally happens once it is warmed up and on a run, under load, and doesn't happen sometimes, for days at a time... and then sometimes it will

1989 Passat DT Starter Motor Swap by Captain Caralho
Hi, Just got a replacement starter for my 1989 G-reg Passat 1.6 Diesel turbo. I've got the old starter off OK, but how the hell do I get the bolts to go back in? They go in about 3/4 of the way and then don't want to budge at all. There must be a trick to this.. they were there holding the old starter in.. Thanks for any help!
