New cat mk4 golf by Sarah[_4_]
MK4 golf 1.6s 16v 2001 My cat has been on its last legs and needs replacing a call to vw and they said its a complicated job and called me back with a quote of £634 inc parts labour and vat. *gulp* Called GSF car parts and the part on its own is £112.80. Now the vw service guy said they had to drop the subframe ? and modify the the exhaust to get a new one on. Not sure if this is true or not ?

Mk4 Polo - Cooling fan not working by DavidA
Hi My Mk4 Polo overheated today because the cooling fan is not working. I have checked the fuses. The Haynes manual suggests disconnecting the cooling fan thermostatic switch and bridging the relevant contacts in the wiring plug. Trouble is I can't find the switch. Haynes says it is mounted on the left-hand inner wing. Not sure which is left side in their convention. Is this on the coolant...

Mk2 golf not starting... by richie h
Mk2 Starting problem frustration.... Hello folks, to start this thread the words " the lights on but nobody's home" sums up my frustrating problem with this motor. Bought this car recently and been ok until now, considering its over 20 years old, i was'nt expecting trouble free motoring with rose tinted spectecles. Being handy with spanners is not a problem, but this problems got to me. My...

He scanned it with a diagnostic thingy and it says 17604 oxygen lambda sensor circuit b1 s1 electrical malfunction" his freind said its the one before the cat (whatever that is, I'm sure I have no animals under my bonet, not that I check lol) There is a bit of room to get at the sucker (his words) but...

Correct oil for Golf Mk 4 TDI 90 HP? by Angus Manwaring
Hello.... My Golf Mk 4 TDI 2002 has started nagging for a service, so I duly went along to my VW dealer and bought the filters, oil etc. I'm a bit worried though because there was a lot of head scratching about which oil to use (this is the first service since I've had the car). I think because the car was imported from the continent by its original

Convert Your Car/Truck to BURN WATER as well as Gasoline and DOUBLE YOUR GAS MILEAGE!!! by Exodus@payaid.com
Do you want to know RIGHT NOW how YOU can drive around using WATER AS FUEL and LAUGH at RISING GAS COSTS while at the same time REDUCE emissions and help PREVENT GLOBAL WARMING? While 100% "water cars" and "water trucks" are still on the drawing board, I am very excited to show you how you can start RIGHT NOW and use Water4Gas to DOUBLE YOUR GAS MILAGE.

Golf MKIV 1.6 88,000 miles, auto gearbox shifts high, likepermanently in sports mode by Digitaltoast
The gearbox seems to shift much higher than I'd expect, even when gentle accelerating on the flat, it feels like it's in sports mode all the time. (Even though it doesn't have a sports mode!) It just revs a bit high and changes late. I thought there would be a dipstick to check the auto gearbox fluid level, but there's nothing in the manual(!) and can't find anything on the web except how to...

Should I get VAG COM? Is it worth it? by Krycek
I'm undecided if I should buy VAG COM, my car beeps every time I start it so there is something wrong - seems like an excuse to buy the software :) Is it handy for the owner to have this? Or is it more useful for the garages and workshops to own it? £115 ish seems a lot if I'm only going to need it once. Is it handy to use every so often to check all is well with the car? Or should I save...

Heated washer jets on Passat by Simon Finnigan
Hi, does anyone know if it is possible (ideally easy :-) ) to swap out standard washer jets on a 2002 Passat estate for the heated kind? One of my washer jets is semi-clogged and since I`m looking at changing it i`d like to get the heated ones for winter :-) Any ideas?

VW Polo 1.4CL Engine noise by DavidA
Hi For sometime now I have experienced noise from the engine of my 1996 VW Polo 1.4CL when accelerating above 30mph. This is an automatic. The noise sounds as is if its coming from behind the dashboard on the driver's side. Its a vibrating type of sound but I don't feel any vibration. I searched on this group and found mention that it could be to do with the air filter box, but the screws on...

How do I replace the brake light on a Caddy Van by hungerdunger
One of the brake lights has gone on my 2005 Caddy Van (the current model). There's nothing in the manual about replacing rear bulbs, and I can't see any way of getting to them. Does that mean it's a trip to the dealers and a hefty bill for a very minor repair? -- Hungerdunger To reply by email, remove the MARX from my address

And a similar question for some replacement brake bulbs i`ve seen that light up quicket than...
