Buying Big Bumpers for MK2 GTi by
bp
HI,
I have a 1991 MK11 GOlf GTi. THe big bumpers, arches and sill trim is
all looking a bit old and worn. A few knocks and scrape over time have
not helped.
I am just after some advice on getting new ones.
I guess the VW till make them, but they are pricey, I know that GSF and
the like sell them as well at a much better price.

Undoing the strut top nut on Mk3 Polo by
adam@hisoffice.com
My mk3 Polo (90-94) is getting new front shocks. However, the top strut
nut doesn't appear to be the usual VW special tool job, i.e. it's not
one requiring tool SX028 from Sealey (see www.sealey.co.uk and search
for SX028). Instead it has an ordinary nut. When I try to turn the
b*stard, the whole shaft turns and I don't know how to stop the shaft
from turning. The shocks were last replaced by VW...

Best plastic trim enhancer by
vw-stuff
Anyone with any suggestions for what is the best gel/colour restorer for
plastic trim. Need some for my mk3 golf. Currently use Armoural but if it
gets only paintwork it marks the paintwork, leaves like a hazy patch. had
my car valetted a while ago and they used a spray which they sprayed on and
that seemed very good.

Instrument cluster dead in the cold by
Don Turner
I've got a problem with the gf's 2001 Audi A3. The instrument cluster is
completely dead first thing in the morning when the car is cold, but after
about 20 minutes of driving the whole thing pops into life. The car starts
up fine, its just that you're driving with a completely inert display.. no
speedo, fuel gauges, temp, clock etc..
I've taken out the cluster and checked that the...

ROSS-TECH VAG-COM question by
DCA
Can anyone tell me please:
.. In real terms for a single diagnostics home use, is the Ross-Tech freeware
sufficient or have I got to shell out for the full version?
Also, Can anyone rent or lend me the necessary VAG-COM serial cable?
Thanks in advance

60K service for VW Passat TDI (51) by
JR Hartley
Hi,
I've been quoted £200 for a 60K service plus £400 by a main dealer to change
the cambelt and pretensioner.
Are there any independents or otherwise in the east Berkshire area who could
do this for a cheaper price? Presumably they can still stamp my service book
as normal.
Let me know if you have any ideas!

Independent VW specialists near Cambridge by
Arthur Bullard
Hello,
My father is being stung for pricey servicing for his Multivan TDI
(T4). Does anyone have any recommendations for an independent specialist
for servicing in the Cambridge area - as close as possible to west
Cambridge would be nice.
Many thanks,
Arthur

vr6 petrol leak by
John Thompson
My 1992 Golf vr6 has a fuel leak. Only leaks sometimes, then after it's done
a few miles, fuel drips down off the support strap on left hand side.Drip
continues for a couple of minutes after engine stops, then dries up.
Top of fuel sender is bone dry, no apparent damage to fuel lines. Had it on
the ramp at a couple of garages but they've been unable to find the cause.
Next stage is to drop...

New Passat - parking brake by
Graculus
I test drove the new Passat a couple of days ago, and was quite impressed.
One thing I am still rather unsure about it the new fangled "Electronic
Parking Brake", i.e. no lever in the middle any more, but a pushbutton near
the steering wheel which engages and disengages the brake. I asked the
salesman about how controllable this is, and he gave me a load of bull,
basically (he is a salesman,...

Fixing carphone on MkV Golf by
piloti@hotmail.com
Hi
I'm trying to fix a carphone kit on my new Mark V Golf - using a
dashmount bracket that requires me to remove the central facia around
the radio/cd.
Can anyone help me...I have managed to remove the top ventilation
grille, the three torx screws that hold the airflow housing assembly in
place and the top part of the facia will now move upwards slightly.
However something seems to be holding...

Golf Mk2 Power steering by
Tod
Golf Mk2 EZ 1989 auto
Hi All,
Anybody else fed up with the complicated bracket arrangement that holds the
power steering pump in place? It puts me off doing other work in that area,
like renewing the timing belt! I've never worked out a good way of moving
the pump just enough to slip the drive belt off the pulley wheel. I end up
loosening almost every bolt in sight and wiggling everything...

Golf MK IV T GTi - knocking noise by
Steve
Hi,
When I let the car slow down, i.e. foot off the accelarator and no brakes,
at about 1500 revs, I get a weird knocking noise coming from the front end.
I jacked the car up and spun the wheels, thingking it was the brakes and
possibly a warped brake disk, but I got nothing.
When I hear the noise and dip the clutch, the noise goes away. I don't get
it when the engine is idle, so I dont...

1.9CL Diesel Polo Alarm/immobiliser problem by
Kingstew
Any help with the following would be much appreciated...
I have a "T" reg 1.9CLD polo (Diesel) (1999) and there is a problem with the
alarm / immobiliser unit. Pressing the key fob normally unlocks the doors
and gives me 30 seconds to start the engine. Now the key fob is working
because the little red light flashes and I've tried the spare so its the car
end at fault but now nothing...

Removing rear door trim by
vw-stuff
My elec window is not working and have been told it may be a jamming

do I go about removing all the door trim to gain access to the window
