Polo Diesel fuel spill cap by Kingstew
In two years of ownership my T reg Polo CLD 1.9 has had 3 split fuel spill caps. (i think thats what its called - the little cap that stops fuel spilling out the last cylinder head.) Anyway, 3 in 2 years, is that normal? The latest one split on a long moterway drive and I estimate about an eigth of a tank has ****ed out all over, I could only smell it when I came off the moterway and slowed...

Mk2 Golf GL Auto - Convert to LPG? by will
Anyone know whether I'd be flogging a dead horse by looking into converting a Mk2 Golf GL Auto to run on LPG? With the way fuel prices are going I was thinking it could prove to be worth it in the end (I'm intending to keep the car until it goes to the grave...) Based in the UK. Thanks

Golf MKIII idling strangeness by Pidgeonpost
Our '93 MKIII Golf GLS started idling oddly about a month ago. It coincided roughly with me renewing a couple of coolant pipes (i) the one from the water pump to the serpent-like black steel jobby (which I also renewed), and (ii) the short 'Z' shaped one from the steel pipe to the manifold. Water level is correct, and seems to be no air locks. When started from cold it idles evenly for a...

Can anyone point me to a site or tell me how to remove the front door panels on a 1996 Polo L. My right side speaker is coming on and off & I think it's simply a case of a loose connection & I want to check this. Thanks for your help. PT

Passat Front Brake Pad Replacement by Ralph Bayley
Hi, I've just replaced the front brake pads on my 2002 Passat 130 TDI with original Paggid replacement pads. Now the brake light illuminates and the message "check brake pads" appears (this does not always come on but once on it will only go off by switching the ignition off to reset). The pad wear connectors have been reconnected. Does the onboard computer need resetting and if so do I...

When the car is cold it is fine.....but when warmed up it is *sometimes* very difficult to get 1st. I have to either put into 2nd then force up to 1st or put into neutal lift clutch then try again.... Anyone any ideas???? Gear linkage maybe???? Thanks

Replacement keys by Chris Bartram
Does anyone know who, if anyone, out of the high street key cutting people can do VW keys with the immobiliser chip? I'm pretty sure at least one of them can, by 'cloning' the original rather than having to code a new key to the car. Otherwise, how much do the stealerships charge? In this case it's a 2000 Lupo 1.4 16V. The key is the basic one- no remote in it, but it does have a torch.

Buying high miles 2.5TDi? by JB
I'm going to look at a Caravelle 2.5TDi with 240k miles on it, in the next few days with a view to buying. Apart from the usual servcing and cambelt/tensioners/waterpump stuff, are there any particular 'issues' to look out for with this engine/gearbox? (I don't usually work on diesels at all) cheers for any links or info. JB

X flow head? by REMUS
I was researching gains on fitting twin 45 carburettors onto my 85 mk2 8v golf gti and it was mentioned than an "X Flow head" is by far the best option because the carbs are mounted straight infront of the oncoming air flow. What cars where fitted with the X flow I need?

MK2 GTI - poor MPG by Smithy
I've got a mk2 Golf GTI 8v, 1988 digifant. I get really bad mpg and I have no idea why. The car does about 20mpg at best (around 200miles to a tank) I've tried Red-ex injector cleaner, incase they were clogged, but this hasnt helped. I've made sure the idle-adjustment screw isnt too open. My ISV is a little erratic at times, but this wouldnt affect the fuel economy, would it?
