1.9 TDI by Andrew Kmita
Dear Group VW is currently producing two specs of the 1.9 tdi engines with a 77kw and 96kw power outputs. Are there any major differences between the two engines or is it just a different engine management system running higher turbo boost etc? Your comments would be appreciated.

Stuck electric window -polo- catch 22 by vfrrider
I've just bought a 97 polo with electric windows but one doesn't work. I've taken the door panel off but it seems I cant remove the motor without first taking out the window. Not a big problem I thought but it seems I cant remove the window unless I can wind it down to get at the fixings. Unfortunately I cant wind it down because the motor doesn't work. I've tried a little force on both the...

Time to strip MK2 Golf dash? by Doki
My speedo cable's come undone, and I'd like it working again. Haynes says I need to dismantle the dash - has anyone done this and got any idea how much time it'll take? It's a GTi if the different dials make any odds.

Blaupunkt Montreux RCR44 by Dave Hall
OK, so no-one has a user's manual. Can anyone please tell me:- 1) How to change the display to green from the amber colour - it's supposed to be possible. 2) Does the button labelled DSC select a CD player (if fitted) or something else? 3) How do you get the TRE and BAS buttons to change the setting; TRE is +3 and BAS is -1 at the moment. 4) Scan is a bit random on Medium and Long-wave (maybe...

Where diagnostic socket? - polo by Roger
We got hold of a VAG-COM cable and have used it on my Passat and my son's Fabia. Where is the diagnostic socket on a 95 polo 1.0 and a 98 polo diesel? Also on 99 Seat Toledo (trying to check friends cars as well). TIA Rog

Just got a Golf GTi mk2, lots of questions by Chris Bartram
antgel wrote: Black F-reg, 130K, 8v, 3 door, only mod is BBS alloys. £300. Hope it's a good price. Here's my first thoughts/questions. Sounds OK to me. There's a slight burning smell that I think is coming from the rear of the car, but can't be sure. Is this likely to be sticky hand or foot brakes or wheel bearings? How can I diagnose more?

VW Golf 1.4 using synthetic oil by David Gough
Hi I have A VW Golf 1.4 ryder that has done 130,000 miles. I`ve just had an oil and filter change at national tyres and discoverd that they have used synthetic oil (duckhams visco 7000 fully synthetic) I have never used synthetic oil before. Is it possible that this could cause damage i.e. dislodge baked-on deposits from mineral oils or affect gasgets and seals etc. I`m sure I read someware...

Golf Mk4 SDi Courtesy Light by Pilgarlick
Hello All As you probably know this model referred to above has a fully manual door locking system which has recently developed a fault resulting in the cabin courtesy light failing to illuminate when the driver's side door is opened. The "door open/ puddle light" in the base of the driver's door also does not light. The courtesy lights in the cabin all operate as advertised when the...

Just got a Golf GTi mk2, lots of questions by SteveH
antgel wrote: Any VW breakers worth speaking of in the South East (near to London)? When you say 'near to London' - where exactly? - it's a big area stretching from Gatwick to Heathrow! If you're north of London there's a breaker near Hockliffe (spelling?) on the A5 between Dunstable and Milton Keynes - can't remember their name, though as it's 2 years or more since I...

Scratched wing mirror casing perfect repair? by Avanti
I have scratched the wing mirror on my car (MK5 Golf), I have touched it up with a touch up stick and laquer, it doesnt look too bad but I feel I could have got a better finish using a spray tin (due to build up of paint and brush marks). I have purchased the correct colour code from the dealer but wondering if I can get an 'invisible' completion . Is it worth taking it to one of those minor...

Still after a VAG-COM lead by DCA
I'm still hoping for a decently priced VAG-COM lead rather that either an overpriced one (£50+) or a dodgy one from the far East that'll damage eithe rthe car or the laptop. Anyone got one they want to sell? (second-hand) Thanks David

ABS problem by vw-stuff
My 1997 Golf gti 16v has a problem with the ABS. The ABS warning light is constantly lit. To date there has been no indication that there is a problem, other than the light. Although at the weekend whilst driving there was an intermittent noise from the front nearside (best I can describe it is like a grating noise), along with a very slight but rapid vibration on the brake pedal. The brake...

Golf Mk III TDI starting problem by piotr_s1@hotmail.com
Hi All, I have looked through previous messages but couldn't find anything resembling my problem. I wonder if you could help. My golf has recently developed a starting problem. When I turn the key, the engine turns over and starts normally, but dies as soon as it starts. The only way to keep it going is to give it a well-timed "pulse" on the throttle. This happens every time, with the engine...

Euro headlight switch (from r.a.vw.wc) by jtaylor
"David Cantrell" wrote in message ... US models have on and off. The on position turns on parking lights and interior lighting. The off position turns those things off. Blaupunkt Montreux RCR44 by Dave Hall
Anyone on the group have a user handbook for one of these radios? I've just bought a car with one fitted, but can't work out all the buttons - mostly it's obvious, but a handbook or photocopies/scans of the important pages would be handy. Seems too old to be on any of the lists, and I don't need anything more up to date. Thanks for any help or sympathy. ;-) Dave. ------

VAG-COM or other OBD2 users on here? VW-specific 'P-code' list needed by JB
Does anyone here have a VW-specific list of OBD2 'P-codes'. I have built a new micro-based handheld scantool which reads generic OBD2 fault codes and translates the fault description in text on an LCD display. However, I don't have a list of the VW-specific codes. Does anyone have a list of these please? I've only found the encrypted list in VAG-COM so far. Cheers for any help, JB
