Torque strut Lupo diesel by Brian
On the back of the engine on the 1.7 SDI Lupo 1999, there is a cast aluminium strut which is fixed to the bodywork by the gearchange, and should obviously connect to the engine somewhere round the engine/gearbox joint. On mine this is floating, the mounting bolt or stud has broken. Unfortunately I cannot see where it is supposed to bolt onto the engine, so it is difficult to see how to repair...

Dealer woes.... by Avanti
Had my car 6 months and wash it weekly, just waxed it last week, anyway after having to take the car to the stealership for some warranty work, Last night while it was raining I noticed the water wasn't beading like usual, and suspected the car had been washed, today when returning to my car I noticed all the paint on the inner hub of the wheel has is now flaked off, I suspect the dealer has used...

GTi clocks by Doki
"Antony Gelberg" wrote in message ... I know that Mk2 Golfs came with 120, 140, and 160mph clocks. I also know that the 160mph was fitted to the Mk2 16V. Does anybody know whether the 120 or 140 was fitted to the Mk2 8v GTi? It's a 1988 if that makes any difference. My 8v has 140 clocks. It'll easily get to an...

Shortly after switching the ignition off, operate the 1 sweep wipe, and let me know if the wipers park in the upright postion? I only just noticed this in the Mk5 handbook they call it winter mode, but can be handy when washing the car (for those that beleive in handwash only). Thanks in advance

Replacing rear brake shoes MkIII TDI by SysEng
The rear brakes on my Mk III TDI are about worn out so I was thinking of replacing them myself. Is this a reasonably straightforward job, does it require any special tools? Any pitfalls or tricks that I should know about? Thanks

Warranty question before I embarrass myself... by Avanti
I have a MK5 Golf which has puddle lights in the wing mirrors, on returning to my car this evening I noticed the nearside light is not illuminating, not crucial I know but the car is only 6 months old, do you think this will be covered by the warranty? Earlier in the year the nearside door panel was removed so it could be the bulb or connector. Thanks in advance for any replies...

Anyone used VAG-COM for TDi tuning? by JB
On one of the TDi forums in Europe, a few guys were discussing the use of VAG-COM (don't know which version) for 'tuning' their TDis instead of using a chip or tuning box. I assume that this is reprogramming the Flash memory in the ECU. Anyone on here tried it? Which parameters do they modify? How would you know where to start? Thanks for any info. JB

Golf mk2 stalls on tickover ?? by Golf2
I recentely had the head gasket changed on my 1990 golf 1600cc carb due to failure. At the same time i had the cambelt changed. The dodgey mechanic advanced the timing as he said my car felt too slow! ever since the work was done my car almost stalls whenever its ticking over after driving but eventually settles back to normal after about 30 secs (even when its fully warmed up). Also sometimes...

Funny noise at idle when warm - 03 Passat 2.0 petrol by David Chamberlin
Before I go to my friendly local VW dealer and make a pr*t of myself, I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this noise? Once the engine is warm, when I come to a halt and the engine is idling, there is a sound like either a relay opening and closing, or like fluid popping, which seems to be coming from the vicinity of the passenger side dash area. There is nothing visual going on, all...
