Golf Mk 3 headlight relpacement by
Angus Manwaring
Hi all,
I was going to replace my '94 Golf 1.8 CL (petrol) headlight lamp today,
having picked up a replacement for a shade under 8 quid yesterday. Unlike
the Mk IV its supposed to be straightforward with no need for bumper
removal.
Well, I had a bit of difficulty with the wire clip that holds the lamp
(until I tried pressing it down!) but then on removing the lamp I noticed
that the original...

driver airbox by
ben
on an old early mk2 gti i once modified the airbox by drilling some
big holes. this gave a nice throaty, rally like sound when putting my
foot down.
can i do anything similar with a carbed 1800 driver?? i'm not a boy
racer but i liked the deep sound which only happened when giving it
full throttle.

passat ambient temperature sensor. by
grenville
Hi everyone, i seem to be on this network most of the time with electronic
problems on my 1998 1.8 20v passat.
The latest problem being the ambient air temperature sensor
which goes in the front bumper,i have just replaced one because the old
one was reading incorrectly {low)and yes you have guessed it, still

Is it worthwhile having a VW Golf Mk3 Cabriolet (in excellent condition now)
professionally anti-rust treated (with Waxoyl or Dinitrol) ?

1996 Passat TDI - difficult to get into reverse by
Chris Melluish
It has been occasionally difficult for some months now. Sometimes it goes
into first instead of reverse. Normally selecting first then reverse works,
but this morning (below freezing) it took five minutes trying before I could
back out of the drive.
I suspect it is a linkage problem.
Car has done 156,000 miles.
Is it a matter of just replacing the cables?
Is it a DIY job?

Passat making a noise :-) by
Simon Finnigan
Hi everyone,
Got a nice question for you :-) VW Passatt, 5 years old with almost 140,000
miles on the clock. Over the last 6 months it`s had a knocking noise coming
from what seems to be the front offside, developing from a quiet noise to a
reasonably loud mechanical clunk, which is now showing up most when
decelerating (not necessarily braking) between 35 and 25mph. The noise also
appears if...

Daihatsu OCF-1 by
john
First prize for cutest car at the Frankfurt auto show goes to Daihatsu
and its OFC-1 concept car. A Mazda MX-5 looks like a snarling pit bull
in comparison. The OFC-1 is certainly Daihatsu's successor to the
already adorable Copen retractable hardtop. The Copen has been around
since the 2001 Tokyo auto show, and although its petite and curvy
shape still looks good six years later, the tiny...

R32 electronics problem by
Norman Billingham
I have a brand new R32 bought in July. Since I got it, it has now spent
more time in the dealers' workshop than in my garage and I've done more
miles in loan cars than in my own. The problem is a random electronic
failure which sometimes causes the immobiliser to refuse to let the car
start and other times gives incorrect warnings of zero oil pressure or air
bag failure.
I'd like to know...

MK2 Goilf GTI 8V Alternator by
Doki
How much work is to pull one of these off? I can see that the mounting bolt
is secured under the cam belt cover somewhere - has the belt got to come off
or is it a simple matter of pulling the cover off and undoing a bolt?

caravelle cold weather starting by
Keith Barrett
Since the weather got a bit colder over the last few days, have noticed
that the starter seems to be very slow for the first start of the day.
I thought the battery must need replacing but a test at Halfords
indicated the battery is in good condition.
So far, it has not failed to start but it is turning slow enough to
cause a sigh of relief when it does.
I have only had the caravelle since...
