VW screenwash solution by
Avanti
I wanted to get some screenwash (green) solution, In the past I am lead to
believe the 99 onwards VW use some 'thinner' solution that does not clog the
jets, anyways VW is shut today, are there any alternative brands to use?
TIA

MK 5 Golf mirror lighting by
Avanti
For those that have a Mk 5 Golf without folding mirrors, can you confirm if
there is a puddle (white) light included in the door mirror,
Some one elsewhere said theirs do not come on at all.

VW Golf GTi 2.0 8 Valve by
VW Internet
Hi,
Just a quick question, about a gearbox.
Why would a gearbox be hard to get into 1st and 2nd gear, when the engine
and gearbox is cold, but within a few miles of a journey, its as smooth as
as silk ?
Thanks :-)

Help please. Golf Mk2 keeps stopping by
Colin
Hi,
Continuing saga of my 1990 golf...
The current symptoms a- The car always starts first time, after about 10
miles running, when it reaches normal operating temperature, the car looses
power and starts 'missing'. Eventually the car stops.
Funnily, if I turn off the engine, wait a few seconds, and re-start, the car
is fine afterwards.

Did VW ever sort out...... by
Chris
.......the problem of oil getting into the distributers in the 16v golf
engines? Oil seems to escape through mine as if the engine is allergic to
it! Are the mk3 lumps any better in this respect???

mk3 golf misfire by
vw-stuff
Got a 1997 gti 16v. I have an intermittent misfire. Sometimes the car is
fine, other times it is hesitating/stuttering/jumping really badly. There
is no pattern to the misfire. I have changed the plugs and leads and it
seemed fine for a day or so, but then returned. Thinking of changing the
coil pack to eliminate this.
Has anyone else had any such problems?

Mk 3 Golf (1997) Temperature Gauge and Heater by
Malkie
Just over the past year I have noticed that my car's temperature gauge
behaves differently from what I have seen in the past few years. It has
always quickly warmed up to the Normal position and stayed there pretty
much rock solid regardless of the outside conditions. Now, if the car is
moving it barely gets above 70, and putting the heater on also keeps it
low. If I sit in traffic for ages it...

Lupo lights left on alarm not working by
Brian
Has anyone any suggestions on how to rectify this? The interior light comes
on when the door is opened, so that part is working, but in any case I can
see no switch for this anywhere.
Car is a '99 T 1.7 SDI.
Thanks.
Brian.

1998 Jetta TDI diagrams or ideas by
Tundra Wookie
1998 Jetta TDI, no start, no MIL, no glow indicator, replaced relay 109
(carry a spare), ECU load reduction relay. Bentley diagrams are not
representative of what I have found in the car for wiring/relays.
Does anybody have any alternative diagrams?
How about knowledge of how the ECU is powered, i.e: does it get a
trigger directly from the ignition switch or does it get triggered off
the key on...

breaking problem with passat by
ellectrastar
I have a 98 year 1.9 tdi Passat and have a problem when breaking. When you
break it makes a fast juddering/knocking/banging noise. It's worse when
you break from high speed. Also it only seems to happen if you break
gently, if you break harder you don't hear it. It's been in the garage
three times and they can't work out what it is. Just wondered if anyone
else has had a similar problem or might...

Traction control by
Rob
Could somebody tell me how to tell if a 98 mk3 Golf has traction
control? Is there any physical presence or code letter on the chassis plate?
I was told when I bought it it had - but the recent delights of northern
icey roads suggest otherwise.
Thanks, Rob

STOP, CHECK COOLANT, SERVICE MANUAL - false message by
Kelvin Morgan
This morning I got a STOP, CHECK COOLANT, SERVICE MANUAL message.
I decided to ignore it as I was only removing the 2000 GOLF GTI 1.8T from
out of the garage to clean it.
After cleaning my Golf I started it up again with no problems and no STOP
message.
This sort of false messages seem to be common, does anyone else agree?

Am i driving a stolen car? by
Golf2
Hi, i own a 1988 golf gti 8v digifant. Its in "Bright blue metallic" and is
the original paint. Apparentely VW didnt produce any golf's in this colour
until 1990.
Also my hazard light switch is on the steering column, which is usually on
post 1990 cars only as its a different electrical system.
It would seem that ive got a 1990 spec car with a 1988 number plate and
logbook!
The chassis number is...
