0W-40 oils in pre-2000 models by
John Henderson
I have been using Mobil 1 oil, 0W-40 grade, in my '96 2.4 Diesel
Transporter, almost since new. Originally, this oil satisfied
VW specs 500.00 and 505.00, as recommended in the handbook for
this vehicle.
Over the last few years, formulations of this oil claim testing
to VW 502.00, 503.01 and 505.00. I understand that 502.00
supercedes 500.00, and that 503.01 relates to longer drain
intervals...

Radiator blues 96 Golf 1.8 GL by
brad.bainger@gmail.com
Hi,
I have a 96 Golf 1.8 GL that we bought 5 months ago. Everything has
been going ok until recently when the radiator started leaking
(dripping and steaming). I've managed to slow things down a little by
using some of that stuff that I know you're not supposed to use ( stop
leak stuff). It seems the bottom of the radiator has corroded and some
of the cooling fins are 'soft' to touch. -...

1.8T Passat running on 1 less cyclinder by
Sukhi
Driving along on the motorway yesterday @ 60mph, I heard light "pop" sound.
Since then, the engine light
is flashing on/off and cars is mis-firing, as though 1 of the spark plugs is
not firing. I also noticed a a small oil
leak on the drive today, it has never done that before ever. My usual garage
is unfortunately
closed until the new year.
It is 2002 model with 101,000 miles with full VW SH...

Passat Heater Problem by
Paul Edwards
Hi
My 2000 Passat with Climatronic (1.9tdi PD 115) has developed a new problem
with the heater.
When I start it up I hear a slow clicking noise from behind the glovebox for
about 10 seconds. It also occurs when the car slows to below about 5mph. Its
a real PITA in traffic.
If I press the recirc button it makes a fast clicking noise for as long as

T4 Reset of immobilizer - How? by
Huckfead
Having a monster problem getting my T4 Van to run.
Seems the immobilizer has activated against it's owner.
Nice.
Why?
Dunno.
I removed a phone car kit (going Bluetooth instead of being locked in
to a articular Phone type)
That involved simply disconnecting the power, (and would you believe a
3.6 volt line), earth and a few other physical things.
This model is an Australian 2000 VW T4 Van with...

2000 Cabrio warning light by
WolfWilf
Started up this morning having not used the car for a few days and found the
engine electrics warning light - icon of an engine block with a flash
through it - constantly illuminated. There's nothing on it in the vw
handbook, all the dealers are closed today, and I'm supposed to be going on
a long trip tomorrow. Can anybody tell me what this light signifies?
Thanks in advance

Mk2 8v & 16v GTi struts by
Chris
Are the struts on the mk2 8v and 16v's interchangeable? Just wondering as I
have a good set of spare 16v front suspension legs and a mk2 8v that
desperately needs a new set on it. Would it mean having to go over to 16v
hubs?

Golf MKIII rear wheel bearing by
Pidgeonpost
In the spirit of Christmas a rear wheel bearing is dying on our trusty Golf
MKIII GL. Are there any 'gotchas' in this job? According to Mr. Haynes
manual it has a '3-spanner' rating which I believe relates to the amount of
skin removed from your knuckles. Are we talking a couple of hours or is
there the potential for a days worth of sweated labour, with blowtorch and
big hammer?
The Haynes...

Mk IV Golf Tailgate by
Peter Williams
When I used the real wash/wipe water squirted into the car from the top of
the tailgate window. Looked as if it might have come in through the high
level brake light.
I was doing 70 odd round the M25 at the time so close examination not
feasible.
I know how to get the black trim off the bottom of the tailgate.
Does anyone have any idea how to get the silver trim, from round the window,

Finding an air leak in fuel pipe - How? by
Kingstew
My polo Diesel 1.9 (T reg) has air bubbles in the fuel line, only small ones
but if the car stands overnight there is often a large bubble that makes the
engine cut out a few seconds after starting, re-starting can then be
difficult eg the other day the large air bubble would not move from the top
of the engine and I almost flattened the battery before the air bubble moved
and the engine...

Mk2 Golf - Weber Carb Problem by
Will
I gave up with the original 2e2 carb on my 1800 Auto and had a Weber
carb fitted.
All was going well up until the other day...
First thing in the morning it usually requires full choke out to start
and then I gradually push it in as the engine heats up. However this
time, pulling the choke all the way out seemed to flood the engine -
the revs would go up to 1500ish and then drop down, eventually...

VW Transporter not starting, advice please guys... by
Jellyfinger
It's a VW transporter, T4 2.4 5cyl diesel.
it turns over quick enough, but it just won't "catch", the glow plug
light is going off after the right sort of time, but does this mean
that the glow plugs are working properly or is it just on a timer?
There is a "choke" type handle in the dash, but that just seems to
make things worse, and I never need to use all through the summer, is
it actually a...

'97 Polo 1.4CL choke problem..... by
Chris
1997 Polo 1.4CL, 60k.
Problem seems to be that the car won't engage the choke when it's started
from cold. On starting in the mornings it idles at 8-900rpm and if you
prod the accellerator it dies. If you start it and leave it to idle for a
couple of minutes it's reasonable enough to drive. Seems to me that the
'choke' system in the injection is not working - any pointers?
Have ordered...
