Help - door locks given up the ghost by
James Field
Help! I've got a vw golf mk3 and both front door locks have decided to pack
in.
First the drivers-side went a couple of weeks ago, but the central locking
still operated from the key in the passenger side lock, but on my way home
from work the passenger side lock gave up too. I can sit in the car and
operate the locks no problem, but when I put the key into either door I get
nothing....its...

Golf - noisy belts by
vw-stuff
My Golf (gti 16v, 1997) is very noisy in the engine bay around where the
rubber belt is around the alternator/powert steering/air con pump etc.
Would replacing the belt solve the problem or could it be a worn bearing on
one of the pumps? The sound is hard to describe, it is not a squeel like
you get when the belt is loose, it is a constant whine whilst the engine is
running.
Is replacing the...

I've had a MKII 1.6 Petrol Driver for years and been more than happy with
it's reliability, performance, MPG etc etc. But it's now 15 years old and
it's time for a change.

Check/Replace belts cost by
Angus Manwaring
Hi guys,
My '94 Golf 1.8 CL petrol has just passed 100,000 and having owned it for
the last year, I thought I should get the belts checked.
I phoned my local VW dealer and they said replacement of the belt(s) would
be 225 UKP!
I said I was surprised it was that much, and she said after some
consideration she thought they could probably do it for 195 UKP.

end to silent calls by
Silent Calls Victim
This is the probably the last day for you to contact OFCOM
with your views on silent calls.
Ofcom wants to hear what citizens think about its new policy
against Silent Calls - BEFORE 9 JANUARY 2006.
I have prepared a guide for the benefit of those who may be
looking to contribute to the Ofcom consultation on the new
Silent Calls Policy that was introduced on 31 October 2005.

Car shampoo by
Avanti
Just wondering which car shampoo you guys use,
My bottle of AG is nearly finished and I have a half full bottle of Zymol,
both around a fiver so cannot complain at the price,
I have used meguiars gold on a friends car and noticed no 'magic'.
I ask here as on the forum it spans into the detailers world.
Just interested in the results from other brands .

MKIII Golf Handling by
draugaz@iname.com
Neil Jowsey wrote:
Don't get me wrong, in a straight line it does give a wonderfully smooth
ride that's far better than the MKII, but cornering and poorly weighted PAS
is a let down for me. The dampers seem OK so I'm putting the handling down
to the soft suspension. I'd be tempted to fit some slightly stiffer springs
to sharpen things up a bit but I've only seen lowering springs (and I...

Knackered Bleed nipple - MK2 Golf by
Doki
I had a nice afternoon ****ing about in my mate's tiny garage trying to
bleed the brakes on my Golf GTi. The driver's side front bleed nipple is as
rusty as a rusty thing, and someone's already had a go at rounding it off at
some point in the past, meaning I can't get a spanner or socket onto it.
Does anyone know any magic ways of getting them out, or any garage daft
enough to have menu...

Breaking: MK2 Golf 16V GTi - 89 G plate by
Doki
I'm breaking my MK2 Golf 16V. 3 Door car, all parts bar brakes will
eventually be taken off it. Steering column, steerng lock etc. will be hung
onto while I check over the ones on my other car, and doors will be held
onto for a while so that I can stick them on my other car while I repaint
them.
Email works fine, get in touch if you're after any bits.

loud ticking noise by
trevor yates
Anyone who can help me with finding the reason for a loud ticking noise
coming from the rear glove box area of my Passat Est 1.8T (year 2000 W reg)?
It only appears when I am slowing down to a stop, and when I accelerate away
form a stop. It disappears at about 20mph or so and above. It has my local
VW specialist stumped!!

VW tool info req'd by
Chris
I'm after a couple of tools to help do a few jobs on my 90 spec mk2 8v GTi.
One is the tool for holding the cambelt tensioner in position while
tightening up its bolt (a C spanner with 2 pins?) and the other is the tool
for the top mount on the front suspension struts. Its a recessed 22mm nut
with a allen bolt in the centre. I mail ordered a Sealey tool for the job
but there's no way it'll...

Deisel 1600cc Oil leak from bottom bell housing by

Brought Camper van last year which needed some work done. Clutched slipped
and the gear stick floated around. (as they do) Removed gearbox replaced
clutch, spigot bearing, Crankshaft seal etc etc and everything was fine.
No oil leak. Drove all around France, Ardetch and back trouble free. (2500
miles) NOW THE OIL LEAK IS BACK. When I stop the puddle appears about 15cm
on the ground. Don't really...

MK2 Golf GTi 8V overheating by
Doki
I've got a 90 Spec 8V GTi (PB engine code) and it's getting hot in traffic.
It's not the stat, and it's not the rad, as both have been changed. The
coolant isn't sludge. What could be causing the car to overheat? Timing too
advanced or fuel mixture? The other option I can see would be the fan, but
it's coming on before the engine gets silly hot and so the only problem with
it could be that...

new passat 2.0tdi dsg traction control? by
Chris
hi,
anyone have a similar problem with a 2.0tdi dsg passat, traction light will
blink and traction control works normally, but more time than enough it
doesn't blink and the wheels spin on gravel/take off. Dealer has had it on
the computer and says its not showing any faults and that's all he's going
to do. Didn't used to spin, car has 7000km on the clock, dsg box seems to be
changing up...
