Oil for 2.0PD 16V 140 bhp with QG1 ? by Steve Pardoe
I'm getting confused about the right engine oil to top up the 2.0 16V 103kW VAG Diesel engine. The car (actually a Sk*d* Octavia with only 4,400 miles) has QG1 variable service interval code, and the handbook specifies VW 506 01 or 507 00 grades. In Halfords, I couldn't find anything with these approvals, but they suggested Castrol Edge TD 0W-30. I thought I'd check the Castrol website before...

Hi, Is there anyway I can reset the service indicator on this car, without having to buy any tools. Have tried pushing in the trip button and turning the ignition and waiting for --- to appear in the display but nothing, unless I'm not waiting long enough. Has any body got any ideas. Thanks

Windows are misting up by redsharan
My windows keep misting up constantly and I'm not sure what the problem is. Can it be to do with a fuse, and therefore the fans arent working? Could anyone tell me where the fuses are? Or is it likely to be another problem?? Thanks for your time

mk2 16v parts onto 8v.... by Chris
I was just wondering about saving myself some time? Are the '90 3dr 16v front subframe and bottom suspension arms the same as the 8v? Is there any difference in the mounts of the PAS rack and non-PAS rack? I have a '90 16v front subframe with arms and a PAS rack sitting in my garage. I have an 8v suspension arm polybush kit from TSR. I was wondering if I could fit the polybush kit to the...

Golf water pump replacement is HOW MUCH? by Pidgeonpost
There was a thread on the NG a few weeks ago from someone with a noise in the area of alternator/water pump/steering pump on a Golf. Now I've replaced the grumbling wheel bearing on our MKIII 1.8 GL I can here a noise (dull rattle) coming from the alternator/water pump/steering pump area too. The 'screwdriver stethoscope' points to the water pump, but it sounds like no fun to change...

How to remove polo door trim by Nick
I need to remove the trim from a 1995 Polo rear door. I flipped off the panel from the handle section and then took out the two retaining screws, thinking this would do the trick. I ran a screwdriver around the edge of the trim but it still seems pretty firm in place. Am I missing something, or do I just have to be more aggressive with it? Any help appreciated. Cheers, Nick.

Improving VW door locks (MK2 Golf) by Doki
Having had a look at my 16V Golf, I can see that a) the scallies who broke into it forced the passenger side lock and b) this can be done with a bog standard flat screwdriver, by me, not normally known for my car stealing abilites Does anyone know of improved locks for old Golfs or modifications to stop this?

Golf MkII 1600 losing power by Aldrich
Hi Recently, my 1989 1600 MkII Golf Automatic has been losing power. It starts and run ok and then, occasionally, I ask for extra power, for example to accelerate up a hill, and nothing much happens, the car becomes sluggish. The gearbox may change down as I depress the accelerator but the engine appears not to generate more power. Today, I was driving at moderate speed, rounded a corner and...

Golf Mk.3 Interior Light by Rob
Curious thing - went to the car this morning, interior light on, central locking not working, nothing from starter, ignition lights wouldn't come on. Battery apparently flat because some idiot had left the interior light on, cycle to work in the wind and rain. Get home, it starts first time, everything works, except the interior light won't go off unless switched off. I'd guess that at some...
