New Beetle - Single CD Player £550! by
Dave
That's pretty disgusting if you ask me. If you were buying a new Bug you
could get, from the VW UK website, "CD autochanger, 6 disc, front armrest
mounted" for £405 which is still over the top but less so that the price
you
have been quoted.
I'd go with this option as a single CD player is a pain to use. We have a
single CD player in our Lupo and to SAFELY change a CD you need to stop...

New Beetle - Single CD Player £550! by
Si Commando
Put a deposit down on an '03 New Beetle 2.0 Auto last weekend. Asked
the dealer to get a price for me to swap out the existing cassette
based head unit with a single CD unit (not the 6-disc changer).
They came back with a price of £500 plus £50 to fit! Seems way over
the top to me; anybody else ever had a similar upgrade? What did you
pay?

Poor VW Bora TDI 115 mpg during cold ambient temperatures. by
Messiah
Apologies to anyone who has read this question in
rec.autos.makers.watercooled but I thought I might get a better
response from UK VW owners.
I've just returned from a holiday skiing in France. During the
outgoing journey (in very cold conditions) I noticed the car was
returning much lower mpg than in the UK (typically about 10 mpg lower).
On the journey back I monitored the mpg and found that...

passat 1.8 20v - no 4 cyl down on compression (lpg) by
stevet
Hi All
I've been having a problem with a mis-fire while running on lpg for the last
couple of months. I have gradually changed all of the ignition components,
plugs, coil pack, leads etc. and still have the misfire. It seems to run
quite smoothly on petrol but misses on gas, more so at the lower revs under
load than at the higher revs.
So I decided to do a compression test today. (had to buy...

MFA Display - Mark 3 GTi by
neil patrick
Hi
The display on the MFA is poor - Many of the pixels that make up the digits
are missing. Seems to swop between displays ok but cant really
make out the readings.
Also the illumination on the heater controls sometimes works, sometimes
doesnt.
Does anyone know if there are any quick fixes for these problems.

Polo Door Locks by
Stephen Dorling
I have recently been having problems with central locking on 99 1.4 Polo 3
Door.
I did all usual checks as advised in Haynes manual, and got to the part
where removing door handle, when all the Lock springs and rod fell off.
looking in Haynes they adise that for model year that a VW dealer do the
job. Great dread at being ripped off with extorsionate labour charges.
Anyway, bit the bullet...

MK2 Golf - Vacuum Control Solenoid by
Will
I recently had cause to fiddle with my Weber Carb. I noticed on the
instruction sheet that there are two options for the vacuum connections
for the carb.
Option 1 (for manual and auto cars)
Distributor connected directly to the brake servo line.
Option 2 (for autos with vacuum control solenoid)

Touran 1.9 Diesel by
jsbyers@gmail.com
I'm looking to buy a Touran, and the person who's selling says the
engine is the 105PS version rather than the 90 PS version. Does anyone
know how I can verify this?
Thanks,
John.

While on the subject of tyre's....... by
Chris
Does anyone know if a 195/45R15 tyre will fit on a standard Mk2 Golf G60
steel wheel.?
Exactly what size are the Mk2 G60 wheels 15 x ?J ???
I loved the toyo proxies in this size on my Mk2 16v but want to go a bit
stealth with another Mk2 Golf and fit steels. Any help or pointers
appreciated.

Tyre Choice by
paulovey
Hi,
The time has come to put a new set of tyres on my Golf v6 4motion.
I've looked around and got it down to two choices.
http://www.goodyear.co.uk/services/tyreguide/feat_eagle_f1_gsd3.html
or the Pirelli P6000.

Oil for 2.0PD 16V 140 bhp with QG1 ? by
Steve Pardoe
I'm getting confused about the right engine oil to top up the 2.0 16V 103kW
VAG Diesel engine. The car (actually a Sk*d* Octavia with only 4,400 miles)
has QG1 variable service interval code, and the handbook specifies VW 506 01
or 507 00 grades.
In Halfords, I couldn't find anything with these approvals, but they
suggested Castrol Edge TD 0W-30. I thought I'd check the Castrol website
before...

2003 1.2 Polo Service Indicator by
Oscar Charlie
Hi,
Is there anyway I can reset the service indicator on this car, without
having to buy any tools. Have tried pushing in the trip button and
turning the ignition and waiting for --- to appear in the display but
nothing, unless I'm not waiting long enough. Has any body got any
ideas.
Thanks

Windows are misting up by
redsharan
My windows keep misting up constantly and I'm not sure what the problem is.
Can it be to do with a fuse, and therefore the fans arent working? Could
anyone tell me where the fuses are? Or is it likely to be another
problem?? Thanks for your time
