VR6 Fan Belt Tensioner by
John Thompson
The pulley on my fan belt tensioner failed last week. Fortunately it was
whilst the car was still on the driveway. The plastic wheel over the pulley
was broken up, belt seized - no pas, water pump or power steering. The
bearing had seized up completely.
Replaced it with new tensioner unit from GSF.
Found this article about maintenance of tensioner / pulley :

pschma
95 CL 1.8 5 Spd
Replace the Following
plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor, TB flange gasket
air filter, changed oil, engine coolant temp sensor.
WTF. it will run fine until the temp gets to half way between 0 and 70,
just after the notches.
after that it will run for about 1 minute, and die down to 250rpm,
kicks back up to 1000rpm, and then back down, back and forth, then it

guess the noise? :) by
Angus Manwaring
Okay..... Golf CL 1.8 Mk 3 1994, petrol.
I've recently noticed a noise that didn't used to be there.
I start up from cold, and usually in between changing from 1st to 2nd
there's something between a squeak and a rattle.
Beware, non-technical description of sound coming up:

2nd try - PLEASE: spares for MKIII Golf (rear wiper arm) by
DCA
No responses last time.
I am hoping some nice kind person out there has a spare MK3 Golf GTI
rear wiper arm and blade to replace my snapped off one.
I know the financial return is minimal for the hassle but - be kind to me!
Thanks

Best Oil 2003 Polo by
Mr Me
Hi,
Need to make an oil change in a low mileage 1.2 polo (2003) . Can anyone
please advise which oil would be best. The car is used daily thought the
week but not at weekends. It's generally started driven about 3/4 mile
stopped for about 5 mins started and driven about another 1/4 mile with the
same thing in reverse in the evenings. It does do longer journeys
occasionally but only around...

which oil to use? by
Souls
Hi,
I checked my oil today and its just on the minimum line. I asked the
previous owner what oil they had used and they said 10/40 semi synthetic but
did not know the brand.
Can I top up with any 10/40 semi synthetic oil or do I need to do a full oil
change and oil filter change ?
Thanks

MK2 gti 8v engine temps by
Chris
Just wondering what the 'normal' oil temp should be for this engine. Only
asing as my mk2 16v always hovered around 78C according to the MFA and my 8v
hangs around 95-100C. The water temp guage seems to back this up as it
hovers just under halfway while the 16v sat a smidgen over 1/4.
These temps are normal driving, not idle. Could the thermostat not be
opening fully?
I have just...

Glow Plug Warning Light Flashes on a Lupo 1.7 by
1113562
The Glow Plug warning light flashes on my 2002 Lupo 1.7 SDI diesel. It
starts fine and the Glow Plug warning light works as normal at start up,
i.e. stays on solid for a short while when the ignition key is turned and
then goes off. Only after the engine is running does the flashing begin.
The handbook states that the engine management system has a fault when this
indication is given. Other...

faulty switch on brake pedal. They did not have it so...

Idle trouble by
Zack
I own a 2001 Wolfsburg Jetta 1.8T 20V AWW... I've had problems with the
idle fluctuating... when i drop to neutral, it will sometimes drop
below 600 RPMs and bounce around before stabilizing. Car has 62000
miles on it... any suggestions? I just replaced the MAF sensor and
spark plugs - replacing the MAF took care of the check engine light,
but the car still idles funny.
Thanks!
-Zack
