mk4 golf wishbone bushes front and rear by Peter smith
There is this very noticeable knock sound when I brake at a slower speed or when reversing then braking. I am pure guessing this is the wishbone bushes ? or the anti-roll bar bushes. Is there anyway to find out which is worn and needs replacing. Anyone done this job on a mk4 golf 1.6 16v 01 model. I've never been brave enough to touch bushes as I heard they can be a real pig and much...

Water in Badges by Krak
Has anyone had problems with water ingress into badges? My rear VW badge (which is also the "opener" for the boot) is turning white in places, apperently from water creeping in under the outer cover. The cost of fitting a new one is horrendous, but I find it unsightly. Any suggestions?

Coil spring replacement by munki
I have a rear driver side coil spring brown at the bottom and in need of replacement. Are these changed as a pair or can I get away with just doing the broken one. The other one as far as I can see looks ok.

Mk 4 wipers by nick
The front wipers on my 1.6SE have slowed down a lot. Even on fast wipe they are barely usable. This is also true with the wipers off the screen. The rear wiper works fine, so the relay behind the dash is OK? The delayed wipe still works, so the delay wipe relay is OK? That leaves the wiper motor. Is there anything else to check before I change it?

Mk IV Golf alarm/boot lid problem by md1jrw
The car is a Mk IV 4-motion 2.8V6. If the car is unlocked with the remote and the boot lid opened, after a short period, the alarm system re-locks the car and then the alarm goes off (because the boot lid is open. As you can imagine, this is particularly annoying when loading up at Tesco, having to keep unlocking the car with the remote it order to prevent the alarm sounding. The problem is...

Golf Mk2 '92 Driver 1.8 battery keeps dying by benpost
Some days it will be fine, then other days I get in the car and its dead. The clock LCD is blank and I have to get a jump start. Once running and given a little time to charge everything is fine. Already tried disconnecting the boot interior bulb as thought it might be staying on. Noticed the problem tends to happen in wet weather. Also replaced a part in the alternator (cant remember the name...

MK4 golf 1.6 SE T reg Auto 65k Bit of a odd problem to describe. When steering left or right there is a noise not a grinding as such but a gentle whine which changes in tone the more I turn or change steering direction. After driving for 10 mins their is no noticeable noise just at startup. The car has a new ribbed belt for the PAS aswell. Just wondering what it could be or if something...

M Reg 94 Golf CL Driver doors locked by David Warner
Hi, I have a problem with my M Reg 94 Golf CL Driver doors staying locked. When I turn the key, all the push buttons on the doors go up and down but I cannot open any of the doors except the boot which is the only lock that works. I have climbed in and pushed and pulled the buttons, they all go up and down together, and tried the door handles.

Tweeting noise by David[_6_]
MK4 golf 1.6s 2001 Within the last week after driving for about 10/15 minutes when I apply the brakes there is a what I can best describe as a tweeting noise fairly loud and noticeable. It sounds as though it is coming from the rear of the vehicle. I took the rear wheels off the pads have had quite even wear on both sides and about 50% used both sides.
