hose name? by Ears
'90 Golf 8v I had a rough running problem and the car was stalling at intersections and starting hard. I replaced the coolant temp. sensors to no avail. Upon closer inspection I discovered a giant tear in a hose. It's the air hose at the highest point on my motor- on top of the valve cover- it's larger in diameter on one side and travels from a plastic

VW keys: retrieving your SKC? by JB
Does anyone on here have a copy of VAG-Tacho or any other tool capable of retrieving the SKC (secret key code) from my T4? I have VAG-COM and so I can code the new keys to the vehicle, but if only I had the SKC code. I believe this is only the older 4-digit code as it is a '97/98 vehicle with the passive transponder in the key. VW are obviously no use at all. Thanks, JB

Golf CL Umwelt diesel estate (1998) pulling to left by Mandie @k@ Zepherous
The car has pulled to the left since I got it over a year ago but has recently got worse, if I let go of the wheel while positioned to drive straight it sharply veers to the left. Never got round to investigating as too busy keeping up with the overheating and the car killing thermostats I have had the tracking done with no change, the tyres are all good and same size etc.

my "new" Golf Mk 4 by Angus Manwaring
Hi all, I've just got this Golf Mk 4 TDI SE 100 which was quite a big purchase for me, and so forgive my excitement. I feel a bit of a traitor getting rid of the '94 Mk 3 which has been a good friend, but I think it was the sensible thing to do, with the leaking crank case seal and so on. Anyway, all seems well so far (touch wood) but the stereo is pretty much

FS: VW Polo (6N) Heated Washer jet by Doki
I bought this in the hope that it's the same fitting and size as the heated jets for my MK2 Golf. It's not. If anyone wants it, they can have it for the £4.50 I paid for it. Genuine VW bit, £12 so at a dealer.

Oil leak and belt contamination Mk3 Petrol. by Angus Manwaring
Hi all, My '94 Golf 1.8 petrol (Mk 3) has been leaking oil over the last couple of weeks, and I got a chap to have a look at it today. He thinks the problem is behind the the cam belts covers, on the left of the engine as you look at it. His garage contact told him there is an oil thingy (valve?) behind it which tends to leak, and he'll fix it. But the oil has got on to the belts and they...

Heavy Clutch? by DekHog
My daughter has what she describes as a 'heavy' clutch - women talk! What she actually means is the clutch pedal has suddenly went from being easy to depress to being much harder and stiffer to move - it was ok all day, then she parked it up for a couple of hours and when she went back to it this is the way it was - can anyone throw some light on what this might be for me? TIA

Mk4 Golf steering pulling left by Pete
Hi I had a look at a Mk4 Golf TDI SE (100bhp) on a 52 plate, 55K miles with a view to buying it. Took it for a good drive and only noticed one thing; as soon as I got it on to a straight flat road it was pulling to the left. I had a look at the tyres and they where identical make/type front and rear with similar wear and no sign of uneven wear across the tread.

Rear brake mk4 golf by James[_2_]
My rear brakes pads and discs are needing changing and was wondering how straighforward a job it is ? I did the front pads and discs not long ago and it wasn't too bad. The caliper pins are a bit fiddly to get lined up but no problems. Just wondering how different the rears are, and if the handbrake mechanism affects what I need to do. Also I read that the bleed nipple need slackening off...

Problems starting Golf 1.8T 20V by K Morgan
Golf 1.8T 20V, 100K miles, year 2000. Twice the golf has failed to start first time. 1. From cold a few weeks ago, the starter motor was turning the engine, but didn't start until I put my foot on the accelerator. I took the car to VW, they found no fault. 2. From warm last night, again the starter motor was sounding good, but

1998 Polo rear door problem by DavidA
Hi The rear nearside door on my 1998 1.4CL Polo is hard to open. It unlocks fine but will then only open an inch or two. Then I gently push it to and fro and it eventually opens correctly. It feels like some problem of geometry but there has been no external damage to the door. This door is used often. I guess it is a problem with the mechanism that governs how far the door opens. Any...

For the electronics bods again - MK2 Golf Clocks. Again by Doki
Since my last post on the matter (MFA computer and Rev counter not working (but the digital clock is), and no oil warning lamp, most likely due to the battery being connected backwards, however speedo, alternator warning, indicators, headlamp lamp, fuel and temp gauges etc. all work fine), I've tried two more sets of second hand clocks. Both should have been working when I connected them into the...
