Central locking on Mk3 Golf? by MankyManning
The central locking is a bit tempramental on my newly acquired mk3 golf CL TDI (not remote central locking) When I lock the driver's door, the passenger door usually locks but the rear doors nly lock sometimes, they sluggishly make their way to the lock position but more often than not just stay up so I have to go and do each one manually. What could the problem be here? If it is going to be...

Brake master cylinder-how does it work?? by tarquinlinbin
I have a rough idea. Presumably the master cylinder is split in the centre by a diaphragm. On one side is the brake fluid and fluid reservoir/pedal operated piston and on the other is the vac hose from the engine?. Can a situation develop whereby there is an internal vacuum leak of somekind which allows air intook the vac tubing, thus causing erratic running/revving?. Presmuably there is some kind...

Polo Sdi 2003 by Tosh
I recently had power steering alarm light illuminate on my Polo and took it into my local stealership for attention, as it was still under guarantee. The fault was diagnosed as a low level in the steering reservoir, which disappointed me somewhat as there was no evidence of a leak and the vehicle had been in twice to them for "service". Presumably the level had been low since new and it had...

Is it worth it? by VisionSet
I've got a 1987 White 140K MkII 8v Golf GTI Completely standard and well maintained with original parts over the years. But has let 'itself go' a little lately. I jacked my job in and went back to Uni to orchestrate a career change. I now have the Golf standing on the drive last MOT'd 2001, and not been anywhere since. Mechanically it is sound, but the body work needs some attention. Engine is...

Chip tuning/ ecu remap on a PD100 Golf by b33k34@hotmail.com
I've been looking into this for our 4 year old low milage Golf and the claims seem too good to be true. Price for an 'off the shelf' remap seems to vary from £225 up to about £450 depending on supplier - all of which seem a lot of money for flashing a chip using a laptop but isn't bad given the claimed performance gain. There seem to be about 3 different base programs from different suppliers...

the wheels on my bus go round and round.... by Angus Manwaring
Hi all, I had my right, front tyre replaced yesterday and today on a 280 mile largely motorway based trip I noticed the car pulls to the left. Its not too bad, but after a while you notice your hand is holding the steering wheel more tightly than normal to counteract it. Not ideal. I went back to the tyre dealer, and told them, and they just swapped the front wheels around. (The other front...

Scirocco 16v downpipe by Norbert Ricafort
I'm currently restoring my '87 VW Scirocco 16v and just recently acquired an OE exhaust downpipe ($1200.00 + at a VW dealer), I've cleaned it up and ready to install however since I still have it off I was considering either ceramic coating or heat wrapping it prior to install. My question is has anyone had any experience, tips, recommendations with regards to exhaust downpipes? Or should I...

85 Cabriolet Top Colors by Brad Rees
I'm trying to replace the top on my 85 Cabriolet - Wolfsburg Edition, and don't know which color to order... The Robbins catalog says there were three colors made in addition to black and white: Tan, Grey Beige, and Parchment. Mine is so faded and dirty it's hard to guess which of these three is original, and I can't find any color samples online. The paint is a champaigne metalic (I don't...

Bora TDI performance 2 by Tcaptain
Thanks to those who gave me advice on here my car is much better. Changed the MAF as suggested, Vw wanted to charge £45.00 to check the car and they would not confirm that the part was covered under the extended warrenty ! quote for MAF was a silly price and the labour charge was just a rip off for what i discovered was a simple job ! phoned various Bosch dealers and cheapest i was quoted was...

Fitting a Roof mounted aerial to MKII GOlf by bp
Hi, I want to fit a roof mounted aerial to my MKII golf. They are commonly called Bee sting aerials. A few questions: Does it matter what I buy/where I buy it from i.e. thinking from a function point of view (not style) are they all the same, or are there different types, what should I be looking for in the description?
