Removing battery sets off Conlog alarm by
alanb
Hi, hope someone out there can assist me with a problem that is driving
me mad.
I recently bought a 1995 VW Golf GTI 8v (AGG Engine) fitted with what I
believe, was a dealer fit Conlog alarm system. Conlog has now been
taken over by a company called 'Omniflex' , but any attempt to contact
them about the problem is without response.
The original car battery was on its last legs, and needed...

Mastertechs? by
Simon Burley
Hi,
Has anyone here used Mastertechs in Morden as an alternative to
dealership servicing? Good/bad reports? Googling the newsgroup history
didn't reveal anything.

Goodbye VWm by
Depresion
For those who don't know the new VWm is the last one. (Typically it was only
last month we renewed our subscription and I find it hard to believe that
last month when they asked for the money they didn't know this would be the
end.) It's quite a shame as it was a nicely balanced air/water mag. I guess
I'm going to need to find something new now.

Interior lights problem solved - radio problems not solved by
Kenny of the Fells
Hi all,
I finally managed to fix the interior lights on my Passat at the weekend -
problem was the joins on some of the cables from the CCM had corroded
(inside the tape covering vw had put on, so problem wasn't immediately
visible). So thanks to everyone who pointed to where the problem had to be.
However, my radio problems (only receiving very strong signals, no power to
CD changer)...

I intend to replace the REAR shockers (dampers) on my 1990 Passat 2.0L 16v
(RHD UK) estate. I have been gathering info from a range of sources so I
can
minimise any problems I may encounter.
I'd appreciate anyone's advice or experience on doing this job.
Thanks in anticipation.

No hope of a repair. They'll only repair small cracks. Call your

98 Passat VR5 Coolant Leak by
burgerbyte
Can someone help me pinpoint a coolant leak?
1998 Passat VR5 Syncro
With the coolant system pressurized, I'm getting a slow dribble coming
out very high on the engine block.. looks to be ABOVE the head gasket,
on rear, drivers side. It's very hard to see past the hoses, but it
looks like there is perhaps a vertical seal on the back. What's really
back there?

Upgrading a VW Golf engine by
Trent SC
I've got an M-reg VW Golf 1.4 CL Match, and I was wondering how practical it
would be to stick a 1.6 engine into it?
From what I understand, the car is basically the same as its bigger brother,
so is it realistic, or are there a dozen other considerations to take into
account?
TIA.

02 Sharan/Alhambra TDi aircon pipe by
SpamTrapSeeSig
Ours is made of aluminium and has snapped (quel surprise!).
Apparently they do this for a pastime and the part is back-ordered from
the factory. Can anyone point me to a part number for same, as I need to
do a ring-round but don't know what to ask for. Also does anyone know if
they are the same part for Galaxy TDi models with the same engine?
Any thoughts appreciated.

Polo C by
gavinhoward@gmail.com
I have a lovely 1990 MKII polo and its seems to have developed rather a
strange quirk. Every so often, the horn will sound by itself when I
turn the wheel or use the indicators/screenwash flippers on the
dashboard. This mostly happens after a bit of rain. Any ideas of how I
can stop this problem? It's rather embarrassing and might get me into
an unwanted road rage attack.
Cheers,
Gav

Golf Mileometer by
Colin
My trip mileometer and resettable mileometer have both stopped working
on my
1990 Golf.
The speedo still works... Strange.
Does anyone know if there is something obviously wrong that can be
fixed? Or
are the gauges worn out?
The car has done 160K miles (or perhaps a bit more).

Polo 03 SDi Service Interval Warning by
Tolstoy
Today I had the service interval warning "boing' sound on my Polo and the
small flashing spanner appear in the display, as I've just serviced the
vehicle this alarm is totally superfluous and I'd like to get shut of it.
Service manual out and the relevant section says,"with the ignition off
press in the mileage reset button and hold it in, then switch ignition on
and turn mrb to the right...

T25 Waterboxer head gasket sealant by
nooge
hello, i'm just replacing head gasket which failed - it's got a split
in it and poured all the water out. I wanted to buy OEM parts to
replace but my local VW centre says they are all discontinued.
Any advice on good supplier for the rubber gasket and which sealant I
should use for gasket and also the head nuts - both VW official types
mentioned in haynes manual are no longer available...

Passat & Golf rear lights by
CJJ
While the rear light units on the current Golfs and Passats look very
pretty, I feel they do not function as well as those on the previous models.
The indicators are too diffused and get masked by the brakelights - so if
you are following a care which is braking you miss the fact it is also
turning. On sunny days like today you can hardly see them at all even when
the brake lights aren't...

Passat washer bottle by
Rob Sutton
Hello, is there an easy/quick way of emptying the contents of the
washer bottle on an 02 Passat other than running the pump? The car has
had very little use over the last few months and the water/wash
solution in the washer bottle as gone stale and smells like the
preverbal "cat pee" :-(
Other than using a length of hose to siphon the contents, how
difficult is it to remove the bottle or is there...
