94 Polo MoT fail by History
Girlfriends Polo has failed its MOT on excessively corroded brake lines from the front load sensor to the offside rear. They quoted £180 yet I've looked and they look fine from as much as I can see without lifting the car to see into the engine. The brake lines go round the fuel tank not up on top of the fuel tank as he suggested to her. It's 12 yrs old so I'd expect the lines to start...

Retro-fitting boot release?? by iplayball
I have purchased a trunk(boot) release button and trunk lock with a microswitch from the states. I have the connectors for both but I don't have any wires. Does someone know how to connect them up electically? As I have no idea. Do I need to wire to the central locking pump? 1995 Vento VR6 Auto Climatronic Black Concept Colour Leather

What Seats can fit a Mk2 Golf? by Richy_t
Hello, most of the interior in my mk2 golf gti has seen better days. I have been looking on ebay and the like for a replacement, but would like to maybe go for something different. Does anybody know what else will fit without too much modification? I believe corrado seats would fit, but would say a mk3 interior be straightforward? I have also seen Saab seats fitted before, is this really...

Mark IV Gti 180bhp? by northdavid@hotmail.com
All I am thinking about opting out of my company car scheme, taking the cash and buying a late Mark IV gti, my current and previous company cars were mark IV's (tdi and 1.6match).....both of which were/are great for me in terms of size/reliability etc Of course staying in the scheme and getting a new mark V GTi is an option but will cost £££s in terms of tax.

VW Mk 4 Golf On-Board Computer by mitul.ruparelia@gmail.com
I currently own a Mk 4 Golf (2003) TDi 100 BHP Match. The car has a on-board computer, which is displayed in the dashboard. I wanted to know if there was a function which sounds a audible tone or displays a message when the car reaches a certain speed. (Something Audi's have). If so, then how is this set?

golf mk3 starter problems (petrol) by dmcspeedie@googlemail.com
Hi, I hope someone here can help me resurrect my Golf -- I haven't driven it for about 6 months, and now the MOT is due and I've found the car won't start! This is on 1995 1.6L petrol: 1) Battery was almost totally flat, starter motor would just barely turn once, then give up.

MK4 Brake lights by ken Booth
My sons MK4 GT TDI had the glow plug warning light come on. We found out that this is a warning that you have a brake lamp fault. When checked they were not working so we purchased a new switch but upon starting work we find the lights are now on all the time unless the switch is disconnected. Same thing with the new switch and even another new one. I realise they have a ratchet to set it...

Mk2 Golf - starting problems by Tod
Miracle cure. I’ve just put a new distributor cap on my old Mk2 1.6 Golf (150k miles) and all my starting problems have vanished. I might even splash out on a new rotor arm too! Tod

Gamma radio and VAG-COM by Kenny of the Fells
I've had radio reception problems on my Gamma radio which are due to a fried anetnna amp or fauty antenna cable. The result of this is that the radio no longer attempts to send power to the amp (it says FERN AUS - which I think means "not supplying power"). I haven't attempted to fix this, instead I've stuck a 3ft length of wire in the back which gives adequate reception. As part of the...

VW Beta Radio by Chris Bartram
Hi, Can anyone tell me the correct sequence of buttons to turn off the GALA apeed-sensitive volume on a VW Beta radio? The radio manual has gone missing for our Lupo, and I *hate* that feature. If anyone also happens to know the correct module coding (not the security code, but the coding you set with VAG-COM) when fitted to a Lupo Sport 16V with a single CD, that would help too. I think...

1996 Golf GTi - intermittent cutting out by Roeboy
I have a 1996 Golf Gti 2L 16v. Over the last two weeks it has developed a problem that it will start and run fine, then the speedo will 'spike' round to 80-90mph reading and then a total loss of power. All other electrics working fine(lights, hazzards) Sometimes it will stall (if I pull over) , but if I have any momentum and continue coasting then sometimes it will spring back in to action...

Passat Towbar electrics - Turn signals indicator by BTInternet newsgroups
Hello, I have installed the VW towbar electrics kit on my 2003 Passat and all the trailer lights work as they should. My problem is that the repeater turn signal indicator icon, on the Rev Counter dial, does not light up when the trailer turning lights operate. My local VW garage sold me an alternative Hazard Light Switch, which was supposed to provide the connection to make it work. It didn't;...

How wise is fitting my own cabriolet hood? by fungus
HI, sorry if this is a subject already well covered but I couldn't find much info on it, so any help / advice would be appreciated! Basically I need a new hood quickly for a 1987 golf cabriolet - the original one is now pretty much useless - you get as wet with it up as if it wasn't on at all! However I have SO much to pay out at the moment and £300 - 400 for a new one fitted is out of the...

HT leads - silicone v. copper by Tod
My Mk2 Golf 1.6 litre 1990. I am in the process of renewing the distributor cap, but one of the connectors into the distributor cap has broken and left its metal terminal on the metal terminal pin in the old distributor cap. I just need one new HT lead. Then I can go ahead with fitting the new distributor cap.
