Mk 4 immobiliser by nick
Having problems with the immobiliser on a Mk 4 Golf. When I put the ignition key in it doesn't always turn off the immobiliser so you can't start the engine. Under these conditions the immobiliser light is flashing. Same with both keys. Sometimes it takes upwards of 10 tries before it works. Usually at the most inconvenient times. Had this problem for several years and it happens maybe...

Taurus SHO by Autos Pak
When we reported last month that Ford may push the Taurus SHO up to 400 horsepower, it caused quite a stir in the comments. Speaking at the annual SHO Convention held this year in Dearborn, Steve Ling, Ford's North American car marketing manager told us, "365 horsepower is good. 400 is better." Words are one thing, but new spy shots from ace photog Brenda Priddy and her gang confirm that Ford is...

mk4 golf non ac rad change by Matthew.Ridges
Hi, I seem to have a tiny leak, which doesn't leak often or need me topping it up often, but no doubt it will be a risk leaving it and open up dead in winter! It looks straight forward from haynes. Just wondering if theres any o rings or seals anywhere that will need replacing ? or anything else.

Golf exhaust issue by B Briggs
Our old Golf (1990 8v) is making a noise from below and it sounds like dishes rattling. The car seems to be lagging and I hear a hissing when I accelerate. Catalytic Converter?

ABS sensor by Matthew.Ridges
On my mk4 golf 1.6 petrol 99 the ABS light has come on today. I had the fault code read and it says 00285 "ABS wheel speed sensor front right" I guess the sensory needs changing. I had a poke around it today and no wires were broken, connector was on tight. Also ready a weak battery can cause it to come on mines, fine, also ABS fuses seems fine.

Tyres again by krak
Well, with a bacon sandwich in your pocket and the breeze up your sleeve the world is yours. So I noticed this morning that the forsythia has bloomed, somewhat late but nevertheless a timely notice. Time, that is to swop winter tyres for summer tyres. At last the winter imposed speed limit of 124 mph is gone and I can put my foot down again. Pass the sandwiches...

golf mk2 stalling by B Briggs
My mk2 1.8 has been stalling. Usually it's when I'm in town and have to stop quickly. I put in the clutch and the revs drop to zero. It always starts right back up. It doesn't happen all the time. Every once and awhile the revs drop to zero then it bounces up to 2500, then normal idle. It's a 90 with about 155000 miles. Otherwise runs strong and has a fairly recent timing belt, plugs, cap,...

Heating problem by K Morgan
I've got a 2000 mk4 Golf GTI 1.8T, 120K miles. Two or three years ago I was getting erratic temperature readings, this was cured by replacing the coolant temperature sensor. All has been working fine until a few months ago; the car only reaches temperature if stationary other than that it's one or two markers below when on the move. Two weeks ago I had the 'water Pump' replaced with a cam...

95 Passat by George[_7_]
Problem: Security light on the driver's side door flashes normally for about 30 seconds. Then it flashes more rapidly (about twice as fast). The alarm (horn) sounded at 6 AM yesterday. Does ayone know what the cause could be? How can I permanently disable the alarm system, other than opening the trunk lid prior to locking, then closing the trunk lid? Where are the switches located that...

heavy power steering by Joseph Craine
On my golf the power steering is noticeable quite light and easy. On my wifes golf its quite heavy, I've checked the fluid and its on full. The garage who fixed the broken exhaust mount noticed there is a slight week on the power steering pipe and howed me it was just sweating and he said worth mentioning but not worth fixing not sure if this can cause heavy power steering. Also a scan...

Cambelt\waterpump\idler\tensioner change cost ? by Joseph Craine
Its come to that time again to have the cambelt changed. I've been using a local vw specialist who do the jobs I can't like this one. I got a few quotes today and the vw specialist quoted me £246.75 for the cambelt, waterpump, idler, tensioner, g12 coolant and if brought in by 9 will be given back to me by 5 ? does that sounds a good price ? (seems reasonable to me) and using genuine parts...
