Spark plugs by johnbond
Having some trouble inding my spark plugs. Its a vw golf 1.6 16v 2001 I have the engine cover of, looking at the block I see our coil packs ? which I think they are all tightly packed. I think the spark plugs are under them ? But how the heck do you get the coil packs out of the way ? Any advice welcomed.

vw battery \ grease on terminals by johnbond
I was just wondering why VW (if anyone knows) says not to use lubricant on the terminals of the battery ? Was just reading the handbook :) sad life, was looking for my stereo code as for some reason it has reset itself. On all the cars I have owned I have always put some one and never had a problem, just curious what so special about my vw golf :) that it doesn't need any.

Water ingress into VW Passat Boot by peter.james990@ntlworld.com
The windows kept misting up following either washing the car, or after rain fall. Water was gathering in the spare wheel well and in the pocket on the near side. After hours of searching I found that water was somehow getting into the skin of the boot lid and seeping out through the lock mechanism and boot buffers. A blanking piece of tape had become detached off a spare hole near the L/H hinge....

oil on the clutch plate? by anneymouse
Hi again, I wonder if anyone could advise me here. My gearbox fell apart internally (I don't know whether the oil seal between the gearbox and the bell housing had gone) but the clutch plate is lathered in oil (and quite clearly stuffed). Would you say this has been covered deliberately, or could the gearbox mangle have done it?

Knocking Sound by will
Have just had the car in for its MOT and to get various bits sorted out, However having just been on a drive (and not being anywhere near my garage for another 5 days) there is a pronounced knocking sound (possibly from NS Rear) when going around right hand corners. I've had two wheel bearings replaced when the card was in, so would hope that this isn't the cause. What can I look for to identify...

VW Radiator Drain by Craigd32
My 96 VW Polo has started to overheat. I've been told this can happen when there is an air block in the radiator somewhere, and the best way to sort it is to drain the radiator. Being somewhat new to car maintenance, i'm not sure where the drain plug is. I found what i thought was the plug but when i opened it nothing came out. I'm assuming this means - 1 - it wasn't the drain plug or 2...

1Y engine / Vento by caroline
Hi all Can anyone tell me what years the 1Y code engine (1.9D NA) was put in the Vento? Or failing that, if the 1Y engine block has a date stamp on it? My JP code engine does have this. So hoping the 1Y does too...

indicators flaky on Golf Mk 3 by Angus Manwaring
Hi all, I've recently noticed a problem on my Golf Mk 3 '94's indicators. They generally work fine, but sometimes after indicating, they just stop - and this is not about the stalk cancelling itself, its still in the indicate position. I spent a few minutes scratching my head over this, this afternoon, and noticed that the foglight indication lamp glows in time with the indicators, (when they...

Mk3 Golf airbag slip ring by Simon Burley
Hi everyone, On Friday I started my Golf and found a little wisp of white smoke coming from near the indicator stalk switch. It stopped after a second or two. A little further delving and I found that it is coming from the airbag slip ring wiring, near to the connector that joins it to the cars wiring loom, and seems to get hot during the airbag test. Mastertechs (our local independant VW...

Passat buying advice??? by nntp.dsl.pipex.com
I'm hoping to look at a 1998 S Reg Passat 1.9TDi (110hp) Estate tomorrow with a serious view to buying. The seller has indicated to me that there are a few problems with the rear drivers side door... 1. intermittent fault with central locking on that door alone. 2. speaker not working again on that door 3. electric window not working on same door (he suggested faulty relay) Anybody recognise...

OT Got an e-mail from Tony Blair this morning.....Honest by Chuckie Finzter
Dearest Chuckie Thank you for taking the time to register your views about road pricing on the Downing Street website. This petition was posted shortly before we published the Eddington Study, an independent review of Britain's transport network. This study set out long-term challenges and options for our transport network. It made clear that congestion is a major problem to which there is...
