Golf 4 Panel Lights by
rjisok@hotmail.com
My 1999 Mk4 Golf has an instrument panel light, just under the 20mph
mark on the dial out. Does anyone know if it's a bulb that can be
changed or is the whole unit sealed with LED type lights. If it's
changeable, how easy?

remote fob by
Nemo
I have a passat 2005 trendline the spec looks much the same as the TDI
in the manual it say's if you hold the lock or unlock button on the fob for
x number of seconds
the windows will all open but they don't, you can put the key in the door
and hold the
key over and that opens them as stated in manual.
I was wondering if it's an extra or my windows fob feature isn't working
correctly?

Power steering fluid Golf IV 1.8 -24V by
Phil
I have just checked the power steering fluid level and it appears to be low.
No sign of any leaks so I had a look in the Haynes manual to see I had
followed the correct procedure which is not very clear. It states "For the
check to be accurate, the engine should be at operating temp. and the
steering must not be turned once the engine has stopped." I assume from this
that the check is made...

VAG-com by
GreasyFingers
What exactly is VAG-COM ?
is it a sofware or a lead ? Bit confused as I belive it opens up a lot of
features of your car to play with, which I would love to do.
Is it just a case of buying the software and lead and plu-in and go play ?
Be grateful of some info on i.
Cheers

A Stunning VW Trident T4 Motorhome for Sale by
paule
A friend of mine has a really stunning VW Trident T4 Motorhome for sale
which he has meticulously cared for since new. It is completely immaculate,
white, a 1997 model, and has done just 27,000 miles from new.
He is looking for offers in the region of £15,500
I have prepared a brief web page for him, providing full details on my
homepage (tesco homepage-very basic html-no risky content) and...

Damaged Golf GTTDI Engine by
Mark Solesbury
All,
To cut a long story short, my golf drowned today in a flood.
A VW dealer has confirmed that the engine is pretty much mullard - It
does run apparently, but it smokes badly.
Its a 2003 53 plate, in Black with 98000 on the clock. FDSH.
Is this worth anything to anyone? How bigger job is it to change the

MK I Caddy water leak probs by
AndyR
Son's D reg (87?) 1.6, 8v Caddy (Pieburg 2E2!) has now decided to spurt
water from somewhere around the carb/manifold area. It did something similar
a year or so ago which turned out to be some core plugs in the manifold
itself which we managed to change and all was well till a few days ago, now
steam is issuing forth at a great rate but we're at a loss to see where its
coming from!?!?
The...

vw battery \ grease on terminals by
johnbond
I was just wondering why VW (if anyone knows) says not to use lubricant on
the terminals of the battery ?
Was just reading the handbook :) sad life, was looking for my stereo code as
for some reason it has reset itself.
On all the cars I have owned I have always put some one and never had a
problem, just curious what so special about my vw golf :) that it doesn't
need any.

Water ingress into VW Passat Boot by
peter.james990@ntlworld.com
The windows kept misting up following either washing the car, or after
rain fall. Water was gathering in the spare wheel well and in the
pocket on the near side. After hours of searching I found that water
was somehow getting into the skin of the boot lid and seeping out
through the lock mechanism and boot buffers. A blanking piece of tape
had become detached off a spare hole near the L/H hinge....

oil on the clutch plate? by
anneymouse
Hi again, I wonder if anyone could advise me here. My gearbox fell
apart internally (I don't know whether the oil seal between the
gearbox and the bell housing had gone) but the clutch plate is
lathered in oil (and quite clearly stuffed). Would you say this has
been covered deliberately, or could the gearbox mangle have done it?

Knocking Sound by
will
Have just had the car in for its MOT and to get various bits sorted
out,
However having just been on a drive (and not being anywhere near my
garage for another 5 days) there is a pronounced knocking sound
(possibly from NS Rear) when going around right hand corners. I've had
two wheel bearings replaced when the card was in, so would hope that
this isn't the cause.
What can I look for to identify...

VW Radiator Drain by
Craigd32
My 96 VW Polo has started to overheat. I've been told this can happen when there is an air block in the radiator somewhere, and the best way to sort it is to drain the radiator.
Being somewhat new to car maintenance, i'm not sure where the drain plug is. I found what i thought was the plug but when i opened it nothing came out. I'm assuming this means -
1 - it wasn't the drain plug

1Y engine / Vento by
caroline
Hi all
Can anyone tell me what years the 1Y code engine (1.9D NA) was put in the
Vento?
Or failing that, if the 1Y engine block has a date stamp on it? My JP code
engine does have this. So hoping the 1Y does too...
