Xenons - Now there's the rub! by Kev
Hi, I'm taking my lovely new 150 bhp diesel Golf Gti with shiny Xenon headlights, over to France in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any experience of switching these things for driving on the wrong side of the road? Of course you can't just stick normal beam benders on the lenses as they get too hot or something. There's meant to be a magic lever behind each of the lights that just flicks it...

I've got a 01 Jetta Wolfsburg 1.8T with only 28,000 miles. And I am hearing a whine when I depress the clutch. I'm not familiar with the clutch system in the vw. Does it use a throwout bearing??? That shouldn't be the case unless there is a known problem??? Can anyone help me out??? Thanks Dave

Turbo's by Khamelion
I have a Mk3 Golf Estate 1.9 Tdi on which I know the Turbo is playing up ( The wastegate is fubar) thus I'm only getting half the boost I should around 1400bar (900bar is unloaded and under full load the turbo should kick out 1900bar). I would therefore like to replace my turbo, I'm not sure if the turbo is a KKK or a Garret. I know with one iof them you can replace the wastegate as it is a...

I posted the following message ages ago and forgot to check for replies. Is this NG archived anywhere? Alternatively, if you think you know the answer, please let me know. Thanks! ==== original post ==== Someone did a mini-valet on it and could hear the alarm kept going off. From that day on, the alarm went off about 10 seconds after I used the key-fob to lock all the doors and activate the...

What is this connector??? by Shaiboy_UK
Hi All, I have recently bought a Ford Mondeo L Reg 1.8 16v, and all though everything is running ok. On start-up (always starts first time), after a few seconds of reving, it will cut out but once warmed up its fine. After looking under the bonnet, I found the following connector: http://tinyurl.com/gyrc (black connected on like a green sensor) has had the two wires into it cut. Two wires are...

Golk Mk1 fuel sender unit - which hose is which? by Jason Mann
Hi folks, My girlfriends Mk. 1 Golf is not working at the moment, with fuel problems. Recently, the filler hose to the fuel tank had perished, dribbling fuel all over the road, so she took it to the garage for a repair. The garage did the repair OK, but managed to trap one of the two hoses that go to the engine between the chassis and tank, clamping it closed. She managed to drive the car...

'98 Golf GT TDI 110 - 80,000 service - opinions sought by Mark White
Try Autowerke next to Sloans in Edinburgh. They are all ex VW Audi technicians and now maintain my Mk2 Gti. Been going to them for last two years and charge £35 p/h rather than £65 at Sloans. Everything they have done has been perfect plus they are a Bosch service agent. Don't let the premises put you off ! 410/3 Gorgie Rd Edinburgh EH11 2RN 0131 337 9008

Variable service intervals and oil - 02 Golf TDI 100PD by anthony james
John Allan wrote in message Of more immediate concern is that your oil warning light came on and you only added a quarter litre of oil. I would have thought at least a litre should have been added to bring the level up to the correct level. Ideally above the knurled section on the dipstick at the top of the recessed area. I think i found the correct oil...

Headgasket blew :o( by Dave
I think he meant the service indicator which is just a reminder to have an oil service. It comes up in place of the trip counter and goes off after 30 seconds or so. If this was the first time it came on, I doubt it has anything to do with the failure. Dave "Makhno" wrote in message ... Yesterday my 1999 Passat 1.9 TDi...

1992 Golf power hood problem by Chaney
Reach your hand up and push at the hood...never lower the hood without doing this as it puts extra strain on the motor... If this doesn't cure the problem and you wanna lower the hood manually loosen off the valve in the left hand side of the boot and just pull at the hood (gently)...don't miss out on the sun... -- Chaney

2000 Polo 1.4 Engine noise by John C
We deal in three year old VW Polo's and have noticed that many 1.4 and 1.0 engines have a noise that sounds like the ends rattling, it is more noticeable when cold, but can still be heard when warm with a blip of the throttle, it is defiantly not the tappet noise, that we are all used to after they have been standing for a few days. A local VW service advisor confirmed that it was known as a...

mk2 Golf overheats by John Reay
I have a 1991 Golf Driver 1.8 auto which loses water through the expansion tank when driven in hot weather. I have replaced the filler cap, thermostat and the 3 pin fan thermoswitch, but still have the same problem. It seems to be that the fan only operates at normal speed and never at boost speed and never for long after the ignition is turned off. Can anybody help?
