Golf Mk III broken lock... by Piotr
I had the misfortune to have my car broken into last weekend - the CD tuner is gone and now I have a driver's side lock which doesn't work... Apparently, golfs are particularly easy to get into. In this case the thief got in by sticking a screwdriver (I guess) underneath the handle and breaking the lock mechanism. My local mechanic says he can fix it for around £50 + price of new lock if...

Adhesive to repair plastic trim by L.Boardman
Hi, Does anyone know of a decent strong adhesive that would be suitable for repairing trim (specifically, the passenger side wing mirror on my '87 Polo, which some little idiot snapped off the other night). It's an easy repair to the stalk but Superglue doesn't work, predictably enough... Thanks for any help, L.

GT TDI 130PS Service Interval by Ben Nevis
I am considering a 130 PS (130BHP) GT PDI, it has something called variable service intervals as opposed to the "normal" fixed schedule. Pro / cons comments please. TIA Ben

Mk 2 Golf fuel pump by Michael Mc
Before you do check the header pump in the top of the petrol tank!!! This was exactly what happened to me and my pump (AA recommended to!) The header pump fails...Underbody pump works overtime trying to cope with demand. Underbody pump then overheats and cuts out. Symptoms are exactly as if this pump has failed - it hasn't...just working too hard. Header pump is much cheaper too...about £22...

Polo Problem - Can you help by Mark Steward
My son's 1997 1.4 Polo has a problem with overheating. According to the Haynes book the Polo has a two speed electric fan. There are three wires going to the fan motor and to the thermostatic switch - which ties up with it being two speed. However, the thermo switch has two metal prongs and one plastic one. The block on the back of the fan also only has two connections. The motor does run but...

warning light by Rich
Mark 2 GTi 8v (92) I've got my warning light flashing on the dash the (water temp one) but the water temp gauge is fine as is the oil temp from the multi function display. What does this light actually mean, is it temp or coolant level. I Think the expansional vessel is leaking around the filling cap as I can hear a hissing noise when the car is hot and the bonnet is up.

Passat Headlights by Chris Bartram
jr wrote: The headlight performance on my 99 Passat TDI is abysmal epically on main beam. I would do better with a pair of candles tied to the bumper. So far I have tried Phillips Vision plus bulbs as suggested in another post but with no discernible difference and have also upgraded the fuses and fitted a couple of 100 watt bulbs. Again no difference. The lenses are in perfect ...

Extending the Warranty by Daphne Dean
My Lupo has just passed three years old and I have been offered the chance to extend the warranty by Volkswagen Approved Warranty Office for £365 for 1 year or £615 for two years. Does anyone have an opinion on whether this is a good idea, or any experience of trying to claim on it, please? Also, is it actually offered by VW or a franchise? Many thanks

Polo Coupe engine by NeilS
Hi Steve, Thanks for the advice. I've tried what you described, but there are now more maladies. Here's what I did... I removed the airfilter housing and found the breather pipe. Mine has a large green canister half way along which I think is not original as it is held in place with worm type jubilee clips, not the springy ones used elsewhere on the engine. I removed the pipe from the crankcase...

Passat Headlights by AndyR
You could try Bosch Xenon replacement bulbs, they certainly made a difference to my VR6, they throw more of a white light than the usual yellow. AndyR VR6 jr wrote in message ... Just came across this site:- http://www.peachorlemon.co.uk/vw.htm and while there are exceptions the definite trend is that the newer it is, the more lemons it gets.

Wheel Bearings / CV Boot/Joints by Jon B

Variable service intervals and oil - 02 Golf TDI 100PD by Vartan Narinian
(anthony james) writes: - the principle of servicing based on need rather than time/mileage seems sound but what happens about other maintenance? I know remarkably little about cars and i'd always thought the 'annual' service covered off things like brake pads and anything else that might need changing. Cars nowadays need very little maintenance. A 'service' is just...

Xenons - Now there's the rub! by Kev
Hi, I'm taking my lovely new 150 bhp diesel Golf Gti with shiny Xenon headlights, over to France in a couple of weeks. Does anyone have any experience of switching these things for driving on the wrong side of the road? Of course you can't just stick normal beam benders on the lenses as they get too hot or something. There's meant to be a magic lever behind each of the lights that just flicks it...
