97 onward Passat Boot/Trunk lid leak by
Dave Hall
There's not many ways in - I assume the skin is folded over the edge and
bonded to the underframe, and there's a gap in the bonding somewhere, or
maybe the badge is leaking (if it's on the panel in a Passat) - any more
possible ways in?
Can you blow air into one of the bump-stop holes and detect where it's
coming out, or brush soapy water on the underside seam and look for bubbles.
Or simply...

Replacing Scirocco instrument lights? by
Mark
A simple job, probably no spanners in the Haynes I bet....
My 87 GT had the righthand light above the rev counter not working
from when I bought it.
Fixed up some niggles today after finally getting rid of the milkshake
stink in the passenger footwell...
Thought i'd change the bulb, two screws from the plastic shroud, one
from the clock panel and flip it down change the bulb and sorted...

golf 3 central locking by
Brian.
My 96 golf c/locking used to lock all the doors when the drivers button (ie
stalk) was pushed down.Recently pushing the drivers button(stalk) only locks
the drivers door and not the other doors but otherwise the central locking
works fine.
Can anyone throw any light on this irritating probem. Any replys/ help
greatfully received.

leak under the car by
Ed
Noticed a drip of water (i know, i tasted it) this evening and checked the
coolant level, fine, and the washer bottle, also fine. The car is a 98
passat estate 1.8020v with climate control. Does this suggest a leak in the
air con?? How can i tell? The only thing i have noticed is that there is a
whiff of old cigars when i get into it in the morning. Bit dubious about
putting it into the VW...

MK3 Golf in need of new Bushes by
antony stevens
Hiya guys
Just had my MK3 1.8 Golf serviced, and the guys at the garage have informed
me that the Rear axel bushes and front wishbone bushes have perished. I
understand that the rear ones are going to be harder to replace than the
front due to the "braking compensator", but how easy would it be to replace
the front ones (For a novice).
Any tips/pointers would be appreciated.

Golf Mk4 radio aerial. by
anthony james
My imported golf came without a radio and i fitted one myself using a
loom adaptor (the radio manual mentioned dimmable display lighting and
i thought the loom might sort it out without me having to spend an age
fiddling - it didnt). As i understand it the roof mounted aerial is
powered - is this connected as part of the loom or is the power lead
for it lost somewhere in the dash? I ask because...

Passat door mirrors by
JamesW
Last night the local vandals smashed up the door mirrors on a few of the
cars on my street including mine. Luckily the mirror body looks alright -
just the drivers side glass has been smashed. Does anyone know if I can
buy just the glass from VW (or elsewhere) and is it as easy to replace
as it appears?
TIA
James

97 GOLF VR6 - IGNITION COIL by
clock
While doing car work I:
- changed the ECU's chip
- removed plugs and wires (checked resistance in wires).
-- while removing one of the wires the ceramic that
adheres one of the wires to the I/C broke apart. Only the metal stud -
coming from the I/C now is exposed. The metal stud appears to be intact and
not loose.

Polo 1.4 oil warning bluff... by
Oddjob
"Jim" wrote in message
...
Last year (500 miles ago) my wife's Polo 1.4 CL suddenly
showed a flashing oil lamp and audible warning. It turned
out that the problem was a faulty oil pressure switch. Same
thing happened today. It's under warranty and I assume it
will be sorted on that basis. However I wondered if...

94 Passat tyre wear by
Prof Rollerball
Hi!
The front tyres on my 94 Passat 1.9Tdi estate are starting to show greater
wear on their outer edges. They are Michelin ZT2 'Energy' tyres and have
been on the car for 21,000 miles.
Obviously the the outer edges of the front tyres take the greatest
punishment on cornering. I'm not a tearaway driver, but it seems that the
tyres have only just started to show this uneven wear (the same on...

Passat track rod again by
Dave Hall
If you were the dealer, would you change just the boot on a mistreated piece
of safety-critical engineering and take the legal consequences if it broke
and killed or injured the driver and their passengers?
Now I am sure they would be prepared to change the rack for a new or
(?reconditioned?) one.

Passat Fog lights. by
Phil
I have Passat 1.9TDI est with front fogs.
They seem to be aimed very low and Im sure they move when Im driving (like
there loose).
I mentioned this to the garage when it was serviced on Monday and they say
there isnt any adjustment and they "just bolt to the bumper!"
Is this true? Or is it the usual VW dealer crap?

Can anyone tell me why my local VW stealership has declined the job of

electric windows on my polo by

Hi,
I have a post 98 polo which has it's front e-windows stuck. I can't seem to get them open at all :(
First the offside one stuck (it opened a bit (it stuck at first) so I closed it again and it has never opened again. A few weeks later, the nearside one did the same thing.
Has anyone else experienced anyhting like this?
I am not very mechanically minded, but would like to 'root cause' this...

Golf central locking by

Yoy are probably correct, there in a sensor on the lock, for your fuel cap ,
have a look behind the carpet on the inside of the cap in the boot , should
be a little bit of wire to open the cap
Have a good one
