Solex 2B2 Carb Replacement by
Chris Bartram
SteveH wrote:
The carb on my Golf cabrio is playing up at the moment - so it looks
like it needs a rebuild.
Unfortunately, it's going to cost £140 + VAT to do, and I was wondering
if there is any alternative (and more common) carb I can replace it
with?

Mk 2 8v Golf Gti speedometer by
Mark White
After having a new clutch installed in my 1989 8v Golf Gti (pb engine and
big bumper model), I have noticed that the mileometer and trip meter on the
VDO type have ceased to work. All other functions are ok (speedo, revs and
MFA). Told it might be where the cable connects to the speedometer has
broken. Any ideas? Asked around for price of second hand dial but need part
number first but don't want...

fan / Air Con problem? by
John P
Hi
I've got a Mk3 Golf Estate and the fan/blower has just stopped working.
I've checked the 2 obvious / accessible fuses and they are fine.
The manual implies that there are more fuses above the relay's but I can't
find them (being thick or missing the obvious?)
Any ideas what the problem is?
Thanks
John P.

82 rabbit (gas) starts but won't run by
gary & glenda lane
I have a 1982 vw rabbit conv. with the mechanical fuel injection. the car
was runnig fine. It was turned off and when we went to start it again, it
would try to start but would not run. The first thing that I did , once I
got it home, was to put a new fuel pump on. That changed nothing. I then put
a new fuel pump relay in. Still nothing changed. I have also put a new fuel
filter on. I took the...

Hi everyone
I'm a newbie in the world of car modifications.
I'm especially interested in the following car

Can anyone recommend some good books or websites

Thanks in advance.

Dealer recommendations by

SteveH of this parish recommended I try you folk as a way of getting
some knowledgeable feedback on VW dealers in the Bath area ... I have a
friend with a 3 y/o Golf GTi, showing 60,000 miles up, which needs a
major service ... the problem is, the garage she's currently got it
booked in with (Motor Services, Bath, supposedly a VW main agent) don't

Polo 4 door lock woes by
Tunafish
Went to unlock the car the other day and the locking button didn't raise,
the key just turned in the lock. After clambering in through the passenger
side I unlocked it from the inside and drove off. Later after taking the
door panel off I found the locking lever had snapped, judging by the design
this looks like it could happen pretty often. After a visit to a VW breakers
I found that the levers...

VR6 Corrado 5th Gear Selection by
AndyR
I feel that the VR's gear change is not the slickest in the world, and mine
crunch occasionally (57K mls Golf).
Could it be down to the cable changers perhaps? Don't know if there's any
adjustments there tho, or whether the 5th gear cable could be worn??
Sorry cant be more help.....

Mk2 Golf Gerabox, dismantle by
Kevin Yeoman
I'm assuming you mean the fifth gear housing when you say the clutch
mech off.
You will see the fifth gear cogs. You need to remove these. You have
to undo the fith gear retaining bolt. The bolt is a 12mm spline socket
or "triple square". Its torqued to about 150nm so its very tight.
To undo it, you have to lock the input and output shafts by putting
the box into fifth and reverse gears at the...

Hi guys
My 1997 newer shape passat has developed a leak somewhere around the
boot lid, such that water is getting into the boot lid cavity as
opposed to the boot itself.

97 onward Passat Boot/Trunk lid leak by
Dave Hall
There's not many ways in - I assume the skin is folded over the edge and
bonded to the underframe, and there's a gap in the bonding somewhere, or
maybe the badge is leaking (if it's on the panel in a Passat) - any more
possible ways in?
Can you blow air into one of the bump-stop holes and detect where it's
coming out, or brush soapy water on the underside seam and look for bubbles.
Or simply...

stink in the passenger footwell...
Thought i'd change the bulb, two screws from the plastic shroud, one
from the clock panel and flip it down change the bulb and sorted...
