Polo GT by Depresion
"Dave Hall" wrote in message ... Any thoughts about this '91 model - my son's wondering about buying one. Digifant, 1300cc. Possible problems? Check the alternator as they tend to get leaked onto if there's signs of oil or water dripping onto it then it's probably going to go. The auto chokes can be a bit of a nightmare if...

Polo GT by Tunafish
I think you should check the gearbox for whining and I guess all the usual things for a 'middle aged car'. They're pretty nippy cars and good on fuel too. --Steve "Dave Hall" wrote in message ... Intercoolers by Khamelion
I have a 1.9Tdi Golf Estate 97 on a P plate which recently had the cylinder head go. Other parts of the engine were dying so I replaced the Engine with another 1.9Tdi same engine codes so it was a straight swap. Now i drive the car pretty car and was wondering if my style of driving could've been the culprit for the cylinder head failing, all the excess heat etc. So my train of thought has come...

My first GTI by petrolcan
I have wanted a Golf GTI since I first set eyes on one in my mid teens and after a year of searching for the right one I finally bought it on Saturday. It's an unmolested '88 F reg, jade green 16 valver that cost me the grand total of £450. No big problems and no rust(1) or rot. So a few questions if you wouldn't mind answering: 1. Suspension: It will need replacing soon so what's the best?...

ID Golf GTi Cylinder head by RJH
Hi - is there any way to verify a gti 89 cylinder head without taking it off? The digifant's there, and the bits seem to match up, the car runs fine, it's just I want to be sure. I'm suspicious because the engine number has been filed off the block. Thanks Rob

He's well again!! by The Admiral
"Michael McL" wrote in message ... My love of my life ( my early 1985 MK2 Golf GTi 8v) is now back on the road, MOT'd (straight through - not a single noting or suggestion!) with his new 16v engine fitted! It's been a long treck and horrible to have him off the road, untaxed and unMOT'd but it's been worth...

LUPO by news.blueyonder
My sons 1.4 Lupo petrol, W Reg, has an exhaust leak on the flexi pipe between the cat and the down pipe, has anyone had this experience. He has an extended VW warranty, is this covered ? It is not corroded. Enquires have shown that this is not a single part but is integral with the front section including the cat which seems ludicrous, considering the price of a cat. I am proposing buying a...

Polo tappets - question by Lap Liu
Hi All, I am looking to buy a 1998 Polo 1.4 CL. The car has done 87K miles and has a full service history up to 73K miles so a service is long overdue. The car bodywork is very good and there is no blue smoke from the exhaust but I am concerned that I can hear a tappety noise once it is started and the noise does not disappear even when the engine is warmed up. The trader tells me that the...

Mk2 GTi, new gearbox, car going too fast by Barry
"Daniel G" wrote in message ... Dear all, I recently had a recon gearbox fitted to my super old Mk2 Golf Gti (J reg), and I think something fundamental has changed. When I recently took it on the motorway I found that at 70 I would be revving at about 2500 rpm and to go up to 4000rpm would result in a speed well over 100mph (in...

I bought a 1985 Polo today, 1043cc 85K and all seems well except for the speedo. It goes all over the place and when I get up to about 50 it shows right round the clock and other times it will not return to zero. The mileometer works alright so has anybody any ideas please? smicker

92 Jetta 1.8 by ED
My son has a 92 Jetta (1.8). It has what I think is a problem with the pickup unit in the distributor. The car will run fine and then quit. It refuses to start until left to sit for a long period of time. When started it will run again OK and then just shutdown. Does this seem like the problem? I think the whole distributor would have to be replaced to fix the pickup unit. Any advice? Ed

Polo coolant capacity by Paul Giverin
I've just changed the coolant on my son's 1990 Polo (1043 engine). The Haynes manual reckoned it should take 6.5 litres and the VW handbook reckoned approx 5 litres. When I refilled it, it only took 3 litres. Unfortunately my lad disposed of the old stuff so I don't know for sure how much came out. I made sure the heater was set to hot and was squeezing all the hoses to try and expel any...
