Overheating...Update. by
Mandie @k@ Zepherous
New waterpump, still overheating, the blower is heating up just fine and all
hoses hot except the bottom radiator hose.
What next? Airlock , or thermostat.
I'm guessing it's an airloack as the first overheat was the day after the
coolant was renewed.
The second overheat was after the new waterpump and again renewing the
coolant.

caravelle t4 clatter when cold by
Keith Barrett
Just picked up a 1997 caravelle with about 120,000 miles.
Notice that when starting from cold, a fair bit of noise, an uneven
clattering type of sound.
Is this normal for this type of engine?
After about 5 minutes, it goes away and is quiet from then on.

Help...Overheating. by
Mandie @k@ Zepherous
Volkswagen CL Umwelt TD Estate. 1.9 AAZ engine 1998 S reg.
Emptied cooling system yesterday. Refilled using the recommended antifreeze.
Today after driving around 15 miles the car overheated, smoke from bonnet,
kind of burning smell. Shut off straight away and called the RAC, they
arrived after about 45 minutes by which time things had cooled down. He said
he wasn't sure but thinks it...

T reg 1.6 Polo CL Driveshaft by
ratman and bobbin
Investigating an unusual rattle from the front of the car I discovered that
the driveshaft had sheared where the nut fits to hold the brake disk.
Whether through over tightening or not I dont know as I have never
maintained this car. So the drive shaft needs replacing ... any comments on
whether this is a DIY task and the potential difficulties of doing this
myself?
TIA

Passat CD Installation by
John
Hi All,
I've just bought off Ebay a VW in dash single disc CD player for my Wife's
2002 Passat, whic previously just had the Gamma Head Unit.
Upon trying to fit it, I realised there was no easy way of adapting the
standard fascia trim, so I bought a brand new fascia trim from VW (£38!!)
and it doesn't fit into the existing "cage" The top mounting holes where the
climate control sat obscure the...

vw transporter t4 2.4D oil filter location by
blokedownpub
Hi,
real noddy question here but where's the oil filter located? I'm going
to do my first oil change on my T4 and had a quick poke around under
the bonnet and can't find the bloody thing.
There is a belly pan underneath but the drain plug is accessable
without removing it so I'd have thought that the oil filter would have
been accessable also.

Although - the fuel smell - weird. That makes me doubt the fuel pump and
filter - I wonder if I'll find the plugs in awful condition when I do the
compression check.
^^ Erm the absolute 1st thing I would have done would have been to pull the
plugs out regardless. It costs you...

Headlamp fixing by
clivevanhilten@yahoo.co.uk
Good day - I have a Golf II 1991 model. I need to buy a few of the
white plastic clips used to ensure the headlamps don't come free from
the adjustment screws. I've tried the GSF website
(www.gsfcarparts.com) but don't see any. Can anyone help, please?
Thank you.

Mk2 Golf - Roof lining coming away by
will
Was driving along today and looked at my rear-view mirror to be
greeted by a massive bubble in the roof lining material. I thought at
first that somehow a load of water had gotten behind it as it was so
big! However on closer inspection it appears that it is just air
causing the bubble.
Is there a decent adhesive spray that can be recommended so that I can
stick it back down?

Radweld - Good or bad? by
will
Have a slight leak in my radiator (mk2 golf GL) most likely due to a
bit of corrosion. When the engine is hot and there is pressure in the
coolant system, then it ****es out of the hole and after around 2
trips I'm left having to refill the coolant system.
If I use radweld, would I be shooting myself in the foot over the
potential £60 saving?
Should I just take the hit and get a new radiator?

Any use to anyone - a Passatt front grille? by
Simon Finnigan
Hi all,
Dunno if this is of any use to anyone - a Passatt front grille. A few clips
have broken, the badge is present and fine, just needs a clean. There`s no
easy way to re cycle this, so if it`s of any use to anyone give me an
email - I don`t want money for this :-)

VW Polo central locking by
peter g
2000 Polo 1.4 diesel - has key operated central locking. The key won't
unlock the car from the driver's door, you have to unlock via the passenger
door. Locking the car works OK from the driver's side. The lock/unlock
switches on the inside of the driver's door also work normally.
Two questions - am I right in thinking I probably need to change the lock on
the driver's door - will this...

How do I reset the engine timing on a 1.6 diesel? by
Yakman
Found two pop marks on the crankshaft sprocket, the locking hole on the
fuel pump sprocket, but there dosn't appear to be any marks on the
camshaft sprocket. The engine is still in the vehicle, a 1991 transporter.
I,m not sure which manual would cover this model, so don't want to buy the
wrong one.
Many thanks.

Repair Golf filler flap lock by

Does anyone have any idea how complicated it is. From the looks of it,
the mechanism operates, but the small metal "hook" is bent so that the
flap will not snap shut.
