Golf 1.3 mkII Fuel Pump by
Chris
Hello,
We've got an early Golf Mk2, with the 1.3 carb engine.
Got it home the other day and the engine smelt of fuel. After
removing the air filter, we saw that fuel was spraying out of a small
hole in the fuel pump.
First thought is to replace the pump - what does everyone else reckon?

mk3 tdi warning light by
Rob Wadley
I have an odd warning light on my mk3 tdi Golf (UK model). After about 10
minutes of driving at 60mph plus, the engine management warning light comes
on. If you dab the brakes it goes out for maybe 5 minutes, then comes back
on. It only happens at high(ish) speeds and when the engine is hot. The
diagnostic computer said it was a 'brake light switch improbable', I think,
so I changed the...

Hi all
Where can I buy the centre caps for the Golf IV alloys- I don't mind having
the replica ones as long as it got the VW logo in it. I need three but I
don't mind paying for four. Oh, as cheap as possible :-)

Passat 1.8T Poor starting when hot? by
David
My 2000 1.8t Passat starts first time when cold but when hot the motor spins
but fails to start. I've tried blipping the throttle and flooring it, makes
no differance. If I let the motor cool down fifteen minutes or so it starts
first time?
The problem appeared after changing the spark plugs at 40k miles. I've
checked all plugs and leads and new air filter has been fitted also - the
only thing...

"The Golf" magazine Sept 2003 issue wanted. by
woodlouse
I need to change my heater matrix Golf (GTI Mk2) and the Haynes manuel seems
useless to me.
Apparently "The Golf " magazine had a step by step guide but the Sept issue
is not in the shops now.
So can anyone sell or loan me a copy or maybe scan the article and e-mail it
to me??
Cheers all

Polo/Golf head gasket by
Paul Giverin
I remember from a previous Mk1 Golf that the engine was prone to seeping
oil from one corner of the head gasket at the cambelt end. Does anyone
know if the 1043cc Polo engine suffers from the same problem?
My son's Polo has been leaking in that area. I've fitted a new camshaft
seal and rocker gasket but it seems to be leaking still.

VW Polo air conditioning fault by
David Aldrich
Hi
I have a 1997 VW Polo that seems to have an air conditioning fault. Earlier
this year the air conditioning seemed to become less effective i.e. the air
was less cold than we were used to. I reported this at the car's recent
service at a VW dealer, and the dealer re-gassed the air conditioning
system, tested it and said it was ok. Apparently, their test is to put a
temperature sensor down...

1.3 Polo (AAV Engine) by
MAK
Bosch Monomontronic carb system seems to be playing up on my Polo at the mo!
Have replaced plug leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and blue temp sensor and
cleaned out the carb with carb cleaner. Engine idle consistently, sometimes
it dips low (500rpm) and cuts and sometime it will recover from this and
stay idling (but rough).
Strangely enough it will work fine for a short journey after I...

Scirocco - Fuel Leak by
Alastair Brunton
Hi,
A motorway incident with a rock bouncing off the underside of the car has
resulted in a leak in the fuel line. (one of the two metal pipes which travel
the length of the car) The leak is situated under the driver's seat where the
pipes bend 90 degrees.
The leak is a drip on the outside pipe, and im thinking that the cost of a
replacement and fitting it might be quite expensive. Is there a...

Mk4 Golf - Central Locking problem by
Mike
Ever since I put my car through a car wash about a couple of months ago,
the rear nearside door doesn't always lock when I use the internal
button to lock - it just bounces back up again, and sometimes take 4 or
5 goes for it to lock down. I've never had this happen to me yet when
locking with the key. The only thing about that door that could explain
the "problem" is that the child lock...

Fog lamps by
Joe
I've got a VW Golf L Mk 3 and fog lamps aren't fitted as standard on the L
version. I've been told there is a relay or something where I simply connect
the fog lamps into, but I can't find them. I was thinking they aren't
present because there isn't any speaker cables in the rear door either.
I haven't bought the fog lamps yet just in case i can't fit them, Any advice
appreciated.

Bora rear fogs by
Dave
In case anyone wants two rear foglights on their Bora, Golf etc I found that
the wiring was all there on our 99 V5. The only thing missing was the bulb!
However on checking our 2001 Lupo, the necessary wire is missing so if I
want two rear fogs on that I'll have to take a feed from the RHS fog light.
Otherwise everything is in place.
Cheers

Need help changing speakers on a '93 VR6 by
GR
After 7 years, I've finally got around to buying new speakers to
replace the crappy factory-fit ones... and I've got a problem.
I've taken out one of the dash speakers, and discovered that it has
two 2-pin ISO connectors going into it. The replacement speaker has
one positive and one negative terminal, both on spade connectors.
Any idea on how I should wire up the new speaker? Perhaps naively,...
