I have a MK4 Golf, but don't seem to have a tool to take the wheel nut caps off. Should there be something to take them off - if so what does it look like?

Hiya Guys I have a couple of problems with my MK3 1.8GL Golf. Problem 1 I have recently had the timing down after what i thought was "pinking", and i am still experiencing the lack of power (not much but you can notice it). Basically what is happening is that when the car is under strain (I.e accelerating) there is a low ratteling noise coming from under the bonnet.

I can remember seeing this in another car before but can't remember where from or what it is, i have pink scale round the gasket's on the engine. I've forgotten what it is and if its a problem, is it toxic to touch can i just clean it off? thx.

Hi, The temp gauge on my Passat is irratic, sometimes it'll go to half and then fall back to zero, other times it won't shift at all. Coupelled with that an aweful fuel eco of 22mpg. A few people have suggested the two probs could be linked. I've been told to replace the temp sender unit and see if that cures the temperate guage problem. When I removed the sparking plugs from a '93 1.3 Polo I found that some additional metal around the thread near the tip of one of the plugs. I have a really bad leak in power steering (Golf2 16v) It is pouring from the rack, from a split in the boot. Garage said I need new steering boot, but there must be more? seals? and if so, where can i get them?
