F@cking MK3 Golf by antony stevens
Hiya Guys I have a couple of problems with my MK3 1.8GL Golf. Problem 1 I have recently had the timing down after what i thought was "pinking", and i am still experiencing the lack of power (not much but you can notice it). Basically what is happening is that when the car is under strain (I.e accelerating) there is a low ratteling noise coming from under the bonnet.

Help. 99 Passat 1.8T temp gauge problems by Soul
Hi, The temp gauge on my Passat is irratic, sometimes it'll go to half and then fall back to zero, other times it won't shift at all. Coupelled with that an aweful fuel eco of 22mpg. A few people have suggested the two probs could be linked. I've been told to replace the temp sender unit and see if that cures the temperate guage problem. I can't afford to slap the car back into a garage so wanna...

Problem with spark plug thread. by Michael Chare
When I removed the sparking plugs from a '93 1.3 Polo I found that some additional metal around the thread near the tip of one of the plugs. At first I thought that maybe someone had crossed the thread when inserting the plug and it was certainly difficult to get the new plug in, though eventually I succeeded - (much to my relief!). Now I am not so sure, as far as I can see the original plug...

97 Passat 1.8 T Thermostat by Iain Miller
My 97 Passat 1.8 Turbo needs a new thermostat (its got lazy & the car is running well under normal temperature on the motorway) so I've got the necessary part (and seal) from VW. Does anyone have any hints or tips as to things to watch out for before I attempt to change it myself? (Didn't feel like shelling out £120 to VW for something like this!). A good start would be as to where the damn...

MK4 Golf more problems by Chris Ling
Hi Group, Can anyone please tell me if they have encounter any of these problems, it's our first Golf, got it for just over a year from a dealer, it's a 1.6SE: 1. In second gear the car fails to pull, momentarily, when changing up from first gear and can also make the car jerky unless accelerating hard. 2. When the engine is cold there seems to be something funny with the

mk3 exhaust/cat? by John P
Hi, I've got a 2lt mk3 estate, that has started making a funny noise. When cold it is ok, when warm, it sounds like the exhaust is acting up but the noise isn't the normal "tractor" sound, more a whooshing sound that appears when the revs get above 3000... sounds a bit like a window is open but is coming from under the middle of the car... Any ideas and rough guessed at prices would be...

Engine stops on deceleration by Robert
On a couple of occasions recently the engine of my 1.4 Lupo has stopped following deceleration to very low speeds - typically when slowing for a roundabout or at a junction. It has only happened on occasion but it is a bit unnerving. Before I take it to a garage who will undoubtedly tell me the entire ignition system needs to be replaced, are there any likely things to have a look at. --...

Golf GTI B975 GMR by Stephen Judge
Is this GTI still alive ? The best Mk2 we had ever owned but we sold it five or six years back with 180k on the clock (and still purring along !). Unfortunately the car's service history was in storage but now we have it back again so if anyone wants the history of this car from 1985 - 1998 or so please get in touch. )
