Mk4 SDi Golf by Sidney
Made a start today on renewing cambelt on an AQM diesel engined model. The righthand insulation tray (VW parlance - I'd call it a plastic lower inner wing panel) needs to be removed to allow improved access. Is there any "nice" way of removing the two spring clips (clamping washers VW call them), or is it a matter of "brutalisation" to remove them, with renewal if required on replacement of...

2000 POLO ENGINE MANAGEMENT WOE! by Richard
My 2000 reg Polo 1 litre is giving me loads of grief with warning lights. It started some time ago with the EPC light coming on and although I had it re-set a couple of times it kept coming back. I then got the valve changed (don't ask me which cos I'm not technical) and it kept off for a month or two before coming back. Now the engine block CHECK light is coming on and although the car...

Low speed engine sutter Touran 2.0 tdi by Tim Downie
Over the last month or so my diesel 2.0 140ps tdi Touran seems to have developed a occasional shudder through the driveline when driving on very light throttle (which I appeciate is a nonsense with a diesel but you know what I mean). It usually occurs around 1400 rpm almost on the point of being on full over-run and then the engine seems to misfire or something, causing a bit of drive train...

Replacing the Dizzy on a MK3 Golf 1.6 GL (AFT) by Neil Jowsey
Hello, My Mk 3 Golf GL 1.6 AFT occasionally just cuts out on me, no warning, just as if the ignition's been turned off. It starts again if I leave it about one minute and then runs as if nothing ever happened. To remedy this I've just replaced the coil pack/ignition amp module as that could be the cause. The other likely cause is the hall sensor in the distributor. I've got a

GSF (UK) Cambelts - Experiences by Tosh
Does anyone have any practical experience of the quality of cambelts supplied by this UK retailer, specifically "Dayco" belts? Opening things up worldwide, has anyone found it necessary to carry out a dynamic timing check/ adjustment, as recommended in the VAG instructions, after a cambelt change on one of their diesel engines, specifically Mk4 Golf SDi (AQM engine)? Does anyone know if the...

OIL LIGHT FLASHING + BEEPS + COOOLANT LIGHT FLASHING - WHY?? by HarrySasso
Hi, today I noticed that the temp gauge was running a little hotter than usual my Golf 3 1.8. The coolant level was fine but on a later journey the oil warning light came on plus beeps and then the temp gauge flashed. Neither of these have ever come on during the 7 years I've had the car. Both the coolant level and oil levels are fine, any ideas what might be causing them to come on? thanks

Wiper arms for T4 Caravelle? by Al
Hi, I'm tired of having for fit new wiper blades to my T4 Caravelle every couple of months - They just stop working properly, and leave a big wet patch in the middle of the screen. It's failed it's MOT in the past because of this :-( I'm guessing that the springs in the wiper arms are 'tired', and so am looking for new ones.

Brakes mk4 golf by Matt
Hi, Just about to change the front and rear pads and disc on a mk4 and am looking for a caliper rewind toold for the job, one specific with a plate for a mk4 no luck finding one yet. Also haynes says to undo the bleed nipple on the rears and fronts before winding the piston back, but a few mechanics in a forum I read say theres no need just undo the brake fluid resevoir and wind it back...

VW Mk4 cylinder head cover joint by Nobby
Hello All I'm looking for a joint as described above ( I think that's the description VW give it). I would personally describe it as the camshaft cover joint. VW (who presumably have never heard of global warming) want to sell me the whole shooting match, joint complete with metal cover part and a few other parts also. The vehicle has a 1.9 normally aspirated diesel engine type AQM.

Whoops!! by phylkat
(Its about motoring so its ok) My friend was parking her car outside M&S the other day & admits wasn't paying attention and crashed into the car in front of her. When the other driver got out of the other car, she was quite surprised to see he was a dwarf! He looked at the damage and told her; "I'm not happy!" She replied "Well which one are you then"? True (well nearly)
