Passat Oil Leak - UK. by
S
I have a 1998 Passat 1.8SE 20v auto, 94500 miles on the clock.
A while back is started leaking oil and I was told that one of the seals
would have to be replaced and I should drive it 'easy' in the mean time,
advice which I didn't really take notice of.
Anyway, I sent the car in for repair at a cost of £380 at a local garage.
After about a weeks use the oil started leaking again, less than...

Fuel Costs by
Nigel Cox
Hi,
Apologies for the obvious X posting but I thought it might be worth it to us
all in the end.
"Someone came up with an idea, you never know it might work.
We are going to hit close to 89p a litre by the summer. Want petrol prices
to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action.

T25 gearbox by
Gilbert
My 1986 T25 Campervan 1.6 Td has a dodgy gearbox - can't find 3rd going down
from 4th, you have to double declutch (not a major problem, but my wife
isn't happy about it). Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of repair? (I
presume it's the synchro gone?) Would it be easier to just replace the
gearbox?
Cheers!

Passat rear disc replacement by
Chris Melluish
I decided it was time to replace the rear discs of my 1996 Passat after
almost 120,000 miles.
Looking at the Haynes manual it looked fairly straightforward.
I bought some new discs, and set about fitting them. All went well until I
tried to undo the caliper securing bolts. It transpired, although no mention
was made in Haynes, that they were round-headed bolts with 8mm hex sockets.
I could not...

Golf Mk3 TDi Gearbox by
Lenmeister
Hi all,
Something worrying happened yesterday. Although my Gearbox has never
been fantastic while I've had this car - it's always worked OK. Last night I
was driving home and it got 'stuck' in 5th. It only came out after some
serious yanking. Anyone ever had an experience of this happening? The car's
on a '95 M plate and has done a touch over 150000 miles....
TIA,

news.dsl.pipex.com
Hi, Thanks for reading my post.
I have owned an audi for past 8 years, I like VAG, I have been to look at an
M-reg VW GTI.
I got to get my mate to check it again for me (he is a mechanic). Subject to
him saying the engine is fine, I will buy it, however...........
Are there anything in particular with this year/model that should be looked
at closely ? It has 106k miles on the clock, the SH...

VW Passat vAudi A4: Advice by
Lenmeister
Hi all,
I'm thinking of trading in my Mk3 Golf TDi and replacing it with either
a Passat TDi or A4 Tdi. Both would be on about an (UK) R reg ('97/'98 I
think). Anyone got any strong preferences on what I'd be better off getting?
I do about 500 commuter miles a week and am quite tall (6'3"), so comfort is
quite an issue. Is there much of a reliability difference between the 2?
Anything that...

Air con, effectiveness in new polo? by
S Gibber
Have a 2003 plate polo tdi 1.4 and as the weathers getting a bit warmer i am
using the air con (climate control ie just the basic with rotary dial not
digital) but i find it does not make a difference at moment. the air coming
out at the coldest setting is just the same temp as outside. Is it just me
expecting an artic breeze from this air cond or should it be more effective.
I also use an Audi...

MK2 Golf 8v to 16v brakes by
Michael Mc
Hi all - After visiting GTi Inters this year I picked up hubs,
calipers, discs, pads and cylinder for a 16v GTi Golf MK2. I currently have an
8v setup for my 85 Golf and I want to swap over to this system. I've
serviced and sorted the hubs and calipers but have come to swap the
ctylinder over and....it's different..very. The new cylinder has four
outlets and the older has three with a splitter over...

Oil Sump gasket by
Dr Gonzo
Afternoon all
Over the past couple of weeks i have needed to top up the oil in my Mk3 1.8
(ADZ engine) Golf, it's not been a lot but has been enough to cause the low
oil light to flash on cold start-up. I checked the seal around the oil
filter and other areas where oil could possibly leak from and all seemed to
be ok, that was until i checked the sump gasket. There are signs of oil
leaking from...

Immobiliser 95 Corrado by
Alex Hopwood
Does anyone know the procedure for overriding the immobilizer on a 95
Corrado. The immobilizer is intermittantly stopping the engine starting so
being able to over-ride it would be useful if it stops working completely !
I found a VW Technical Bulletin on the web (number 99-11 June 25 1999
"Anti-theft Immobilizer On Board Diagnostic (OBD)") which is strictly
applicable to 2000+ cars (and...

VW Passat Climate Control Console Flashing for 5 Seconds. Why? by
S
I have a 1998 VW Passat auto 1.8 20V.
Upon receiving the car from the garage to replace an oil seal, the segments
on the climate control console all now flash for about 5 seconds when
turning on the car.
The AC system doesn't seem to work and I don't hear the usual sounds to
indicate that it is working.
No click can be heard, no 'Hoover' type sounds and no cold air.
When the flashing stops, the...

My front wipers have started moving very slowly , so much to the point I
have to return them to park manually, is there a quick easy way to determine
if the motor or mechanism is faulty before spending my hard earned cash?
Thanks in advance.
