Vacuum hoses - Golf Mk2 by toddi
Mk2 Golf 1.6 automatic 1990 Pierburg 2E2 Just been renewing a few vacuum hoses relating to the carb and came across a check valve (half black, half white) that seems to be the wrong way round! It's on the line from the green spherical vacuum reservoir to the inlet manifold, which also branches off to the choke pull-down diaphragm. On mine the black end faces the vacuum reservoir and the white...

Passat leak by Tony Beardmore
I own a 1999 model 1.8T with climate control. Over the last week or so I've noticed a small leak from the front nearside bumper area, which drips from the lower front of the wheel arch. At the weekend I tried to trace the source of the leak but failed miserably! When I removed the plastic cover from underneath the engine area, all that I could see was where the water (which is slightly oily) was...

Golf MK3 ryder cutting out by David Gough
Hi I have A 1994 mk3 golf 1400 ryder 118000 miles. It has cut out 3 times in the last half hour (approx 10 miles travelled ) The first time the car restarted straight away, the second time it took a few turns of the key to start. The third time it took about 8 tries and then it started. I travelled the last six miles home with no problems. The plug leads are not loose. (This may be...

Spare parts - Glovebox & Seat rims. by spencer
Hi, I have recently bought a VW GOLf Mk III Driver (1994) and a few of the plastic interior trim parts have broken. Notably - both parts of the glovebox mechanism (handle and clip) and the trim on the seat. Where is the best place online to buy replacement parts such as these and how do I find out the part numbers.

jack for Passat Estate by Kenny of the Fells
Should my 1998 Passat Estate have a jack somewhere? I bought the car last year, checking the spare wheel at the weekend I can't see any sign of jack or tools for removing wheels. Should these be with the wheel or could they be tucked away somewhere else? KotF

What grade oil for 1.9 SDI engine? by AstraVanMan
Just wondering, as I'm going to be doing an oil change in my Seat Inca van, which has the VAG 1.9SDI engine. I know certain engines are quite specific about the grade of oil due to sticky valve problems - is this one of them? Before someone mentions it I don't have the handbook so can't check in there. Should have asked the main dealer when I got the oil filter from there (asked for the oil but...

Turbo kits for sale by Pete
Over recent years the 1.8 20valve turbo Volkswagens have proven that our favourite cars are even more fun with turbo power. Now you can add turbo power to almost any late model Volkswagen. Just imagine fourth gear on your VR6, accelerating like second.

squeeky seat - passat 2002 by Robert O'Malley
I have a 2002 Passat Sport and the drivers seat squeeks constantly. It has been in the dealers two times (four days in total) to fix this and it is fine for the first 24 hours and then starts squeeking again. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this as it is driving me mad. Cheers Bob

115 PD BORA Clutch Problem. Help Please by pacc
its a 2000 x reg done 70k. Today, and without any warning, the clutch pedal shot to the floor with a crack and stayed there. I discovered the plastic clips that hold the hydraulic pushrod to the pedal behind the panelling, all intact. The pushrod had popped through the pedal shaft. I've tried reassembling it twice but it pops off again. It seems either the master cylinder pushrod wont go in, or...

V5 dying on hot starts by Dave
Have a 99 V5 with 61k on the clock. Dealer change the coolant temp sensor a month or so ago and it appeared to have solved the problem. However today the car died 4 times in a row. Basically the engine starts and the revs briefly rise to around 1100 and then go back to normal idle. It's at this point that they just keep dropping. The ECU tries to keep the engine going but anything below 400 rpm...

Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor by Michael MacClancy
I've got a P-reg diesel Passat (110hp) which loses accelerator response when the roads are very wet. The glow lamp light flashes indicating an engine management system fault and it's only possible to drive the care with the engine idling. The dealer's analysis system says that there's a sporadic fault - 777 - with the accelerator pedal position - implausible signal. The dealer tells me that...

How Much for Polo Head Gasket? by Harry Chrishner
The thermostat just went on my Polo, it overheated and now needs a new head gasket - I'm being told about £350 (incl labour, vat, etc). I don't know a lot about these things - is that a decent price? I'm not trying to get it done as cheap as possible, just want to avoid getting stung! Cheers

VW Electric Window Switch Funny Behaviour by Chris
Hi Group, I just bought a Passat, and found the driver's window switch behave strangely, the soft down press is now behaving exactly the same as soft up, i.e.window wind up until switch release. So, the only way to close the window is to hard pull the switch. A friend of mine got a MkIV Golf, it's soft down switch feature is working fine but intermittently.

Replacing pads & disks on a 98 Passat 1.8T by Iain Miller
Both the front & rear disks will need doing on my Passat in the not too distant future. (about 70K miles on it) I can see the rear pads are getting pretty low & will need doing before the fronts which seem to still have quite a bit of meat left on them - probably 6 or 7 mm. My question is as to whether its a safe thing to do to replace the rears only for the time being i.e. is it likely to...
