I know the 1.6 in my mk2 driver is effectively a short stroke 1.8 used in the GTI, is it posible to run the GTI Cam and Head on my driver? is the crank timing the same? also quick tip for a little more meaty sound from your driver, the centre box can be un bolted and a straight pipe inserted without any further mods. god it sounds cool!and looks bog standard!!! Hi, bought a GTI 1.8 T 150bhp today. I was under the impression it should be 'badged' with a GTi red i. It has the bog standard silver 'GTI' badge on rear right. Is this cause the previous owner didnt want thieving *******s to know it was a 150bhp GTI or could there be another reason.

The 1.9 TDI engines by VW were developed to 110kW (150bhp) but the newer 2 litre 16 valve does only 100 - 103kW (depending on the car it is installed in). Should it not be better than the 1.9litre engine or is it due to emissions legislation? It seems VW is a bit behind BMW whose 2litre engine does 110kW.
