Corrado VR6 Clutch Replacement by Alex Hopwood
I'm was going to the change the clutch and timing chain on my 95 VR6 Corrado and would be grateful for some advice on the following points: 1) Are there any odd nuts, bolts etc requiring special tools ? I assume the 12 point nuts on the clutch spring plate just require a standard 12 point socket ? 2) Bentley's manual seems to require the engine support tool when removing the starter motor, I can...

Re-connecting battery in Mk III Golf GTI causes hazards to flash by svbob
I've just come back having been out of the country for 6 months - to avoid any problems that might arise due to a decaying battery whilst I was away, I disconnected the battery before I left. I've recharged and reconnected the battery - first making sure that the ignition was switched on, as recommended in this group - only to be greeted by the hazard lights coming on of their own accord,...

Wheel aligners by Roy Hammond
I'm looking for a local firm who knows what they are doing and can carry out a wheel alignment on my 1994 Golf Mk3 Avantgarde (2litre cabriolet automatic). This morning I replaced both front strut bearings. I was surprised to find them both so very badly worn. There had been no obvious driving problems, except an occasional 'crack' noise when reversing under full lock. What really made me...

Mk4 Golf Lambda Probe replaced but fault remains.. by Dave Fox
Hi all, My 2000 1.6 recently started loosing power intermittently, just for a second or two, and the 'check engine' light lit on the dash. So.. It was due it's 40000 service - off it went to main dealer for service followed by investigating of the fault. By this point I had put a couple of hundred more miles on since the fault first showed and the engine was now running rough all the time. They...

Bang from front brakes on polo by KingStew
I have a 99 Polo diesel and have a problem that I hope someone can give me a clue as to what it could be. There is an occasional clunk or bang that appears to come from the front brakes. Only happens when pressing the brake pedal after changing direction. eg. When reversing, then brake, Bang. Go forward, brake, bang, then fine until reversed again. It seems to me like something is rotating and...

Polo GTi Recall by Polo Player
Attention all Polo GTi owners. I got a letter yesterday (dated 1st July 2004) recalling my Polo GTi Mk.5 (Jan 2001), for attention to the "Foot Pedal Support". Passat Recalls - how to get one? by chris
According to HonestJohn, there was a recall for some A4 and Passat for the tie rod ends and ball joint, I can hear some clicking noise from turning at very low speed, as if it's transmitted all the way up to the steering column plus something sounds loose when going over bumps. Just wonder how I can make VW to do a recall for my Passat? The car is more than 4 years old BTW. ~ Chris

Accelerator Sensor by Dr Gonzo
Afternoon all I think i might be one step closer to sorting the erratic idling on my MK3 Golf. Lastweek i took the car to three garages in hampshire who diagnosed the problem as either a faulty ECU or a malfunctioning accelerator sensor, but more than likely the latter. I ordered a new sensor from a comany in Petersfield which arrived this morning, but i'm not 100% sure how to set it up once it...

Golf 4Motion/TDi 150 ownership costs by Edward Hobson
Hi all, I am just after a bit of impartial advice really. I am ready to replace my current car, a Mondeo ST24 which has close to 90k miles on it and which I have owned for the past 3.5 years. It has been a pleasure to own - cheap, reliable and generally entertaining to drive. I'm looking around now to see what looks like a good replacement. The new Mondeo ST220 looks like a good option but a...
