Hi What is the best method of holding the camshaft still in a 89 Mk2 while removing its sprocket bolt. My car manual only says "Devise a method to prevent the camshaft turning and remove the sprocket bolt" which is not a lot of use. I was thinking of jamming a spanner through one of spokes in the sprocket but this may damage it. Any help would be appreciated.

Bit of a problem with my mk1 Golf GTi. It'll start ok and run fine as long as I keep some pressure on the throttle, but as soon as I lift off it stalls. I have a rough running 1.4 V reg Polo with 75,000 miles on the clock. It has been fine since day one but last week it was running like a dog. What alarm would you recommend for fitment to a UK 1997 VW Polo 1.4CL Auto? It doesn't *have* to be Thatcham approved. But it must be capable of interfacing with the OEM VW central locking.
