Default Heating problem

I've got a 2000 mk4 Golf GTI 1.8T, 120K miles.
Two or three years ago I was getting erratic temperature readings, this
was cured by replacing the coolant temperature sensor.
All has been working fine until a few months ago; the car only reaches
temperature if stationary other than that it's one or two markers below
when on the move.

Two weeks ago I had the 'water Pump' replaced with a cam belt change, so
it's unlikely to be water pump.

Should I replace the coolant temperature sensor again?

Thanks

MK4 golf 1.6 SE T ref (AEH engine) Automatic

I have been having trouble with the heating in my car, mainly there is not
much, and in the two middle vents a mere dribble of heat or warmish air
comes out. Also not I'm not sure if this is related but the temperature
needle doesn't always get to 90 or sometimes it does but never stays usually
goes up and down between 80 and 90, and when its at 90 and you use the
heating it drops to 80.

I was told its a common fault on the mk4 golf and it was the coolant
temperature sensor so I changed that. No change.

My local friendly free mechanic next door said it could be a airlock and
to run the car with the coolant tank cap off for 15/20 minutes. I did and no
change.

Just wondering what else I could try, before accepting defeat and iving my
piggy bank to the local vw specialist.

Appreciate any advice on what to do.

Thanks

No it sounds more like the thermostat is stuck open all the time

Pull the electronic thermostat out 2x 30 torx bolts front of the hose
cluster they break up.

Sounds as though the thermostat isn't closing properly, allowing under
temperature water the circulate though the radiator .

I'd second the thermostat.
