Default hose name?

'90 Golf 8v

I had a rough running problem and the car was stalling at
intersections and starting hard.

I replaced the coolant temp. sensors to no avail.

Upon closer inspection I discovered a giant tear in a hose. It's the
air hose at the highest point on my motor- on top of the valve cover-
it's larger in diameter on one side and travels from a plastic
cannister to the motor.

What is this hose? Does it have a name? Any ordering suggestions?

Thanks

It will be called something like "breather hose" / "cylinder head
ventilation hose", although this is probably not the main cause of your
rough running as all it does is pass engine-case gases back into the air
intake for reburning. I had to change it on my 90 8v 1.8 GTI (PB engine) due
to splitting, but it made no difference to the engine performance.

what engine size / code is yours and I will look up the part number for you?

for the rough running, I would start with spraying carb cleaner through the
throttle body / carburettor, and check for any splits in the thin
flexi-pipes coming out of the TB / carb, then go through the usual stuff
like change spark plugs, air and fuel filters, dizzy cap and rotor arm etc.

My responses follow your quotations.

My car runs much better since replacing the hose.

Not sure how to tell the code.

Car is fuel injected.

I've replaced all of the tune-up parts.

Thanks!
