Default Heavy Clutch?

My daughter has what she describes as a 'heavy' clutch - women talk!
What she actually means is the clutch pedal has suddenly went from
being easy to depress to being much harder and stiffer to move - it
was ok all day, then she parked it up for a couple of hours and when
she went back to it this is the way it was - can anyone throw some
light on what this might be for me?

TIA

What car is it?

If it's a suddenly heavy clutch as described, then probably something in
the release mechanism has broken.
