I can't figure out how to get at the bulb though!

Anyone help me out ?

My wife said take it to halfords and pay them a few pounds to struggle with
it evil woman ...

Which side?

On our Bora you needed to remove part of the plastic trim to get access to
the driver's side light. However on www.uk-mkivs.net people mention about
removing the bumpers etc. Never had to do that on our Bora but it did have a
combined high/low beam unit instead of the Golf's separate units.

I think it's possible to do it with the headlight in place but you need
smallish hands so my suggestion is get your wife to do it :-)

When standing in front of the car its the left light (passenger side) thats
blown.

Its a single werid looking bulb thingy h7 or something. I do hope I don't
have to remove a bumper! to change a bulb.

WIll investigate o how to get at it tommorow.

Official procedure *is* to remove the bumper but apparently it's
possible with patience and small hands without resorting to that.

Mornin Chris :-)

Just gone out and bought the bulb. I made an error last night in which bulb
was blown it was the drivers side not passenger, I was saying it right in my
head but wrote the wrong thing ..oops

Anyways its not as auwful a job as I thought, very very fiddly though.
Basically took about 5/6 mins. Very little space back there to fiddle but
with a little patience it is a doable job without removing the bumper.

My hands are a little ripped up though lol, I sc ratched them a few times.
Oh well all done.

Out of curiosity I called my local vw specialist I use he said they charge
£25 to fit the bulb as the front bumper has to come off.

Thanks for the advice.

Try yanking it off a little brute force. Failing that try a sledge
hammer. Might need a new piece of glass afterwards though.

If you have very small hands you *may* be able to get to from the behind the
unit. If not, you HAVE to remove the front bumper and remove the headlight.

lol ... the other side blew a couple of days. Took the friggin bumper off
and replaced it. A real PITA. Sods law. I might just change they both once a
year when I have the time free to take the bumper off and do it. Stupid
design I must say.
