Default Remote central locking fault

On my 98 golf tdi the remote central locking has started to play up.
It works ok for a while and then the remote fails to respond so I have
to use the key.
After a while the remote will then work ok again and then will not fail
again until probably the next day.
Vw dealer advised me to try new batteries (not cured fault) then said to
try a
new key and remote so I paid £147 for the new one.
The problem is still the same.
Any idea what the fault could be ?

Thanks Guys

An off-the-wall thought,

Does the problem occur in the same location, always at home, at work, in the
local shopping centre? Could be interference from another radio source.

Default Remote central locking fault

i had the same in my 97 golf, turned out that the alarm sensor (a small
switch which is depressed as the bonnet is closed) under the bonnet at the
front had got stuck after corrosion, all i did was rouged it up with sum
emery cloth and smeard on a bit of switch lube..job done

hope this helps

For example, my last car refused to allow the remote locking to work when
parked outside work, due to a bloody big mobile phone mast on the roof I
believe. Literally everywhere else it worked, just not there.
