4) block vacuum pipe that powers the EGR?

Probably easiest. Make a new gasket from a bit of dog-food tin and
install together with the existing gaskets.

Sorry, you've lost me. DMF?

Dual-Mass Flywheel.

A flywheel that is split, with some variety of damping mechanism
between the two bits. I don't know the detail, but some are springs,
some a type of grease. It acts kind of like a more advanced clutch
plate spring and absorbs some vibration/harshness in the drivetrain.

I reckon it's the EGR though. The DMF apparently rattles like buggery
when failed.

Any tips on how to disable the EGR on a tdi Touran?

If I've understood correctly the options are

1) fiddle with VAGCOM (unfortunately not an option open to me),
2) a bit of electrical disconection (which I believe lights up a warning
light that would annoy me),
3) block pipe from exhast to inlet?
4) block vacuum pipe that powers the EGR?

VAG comm is the only option- on these models hindering the EGR flow which
ever way will light the MIL, as the ECU measures the amount of EGr by
watching the AMM reading. If it doesnt drop when it opens the EGR valve, it
knows there is a problem...

Hmmm, perhaps easier said than done. I've had a poke about under the bonnet
but I can't see any of the EGR trickery anywhere. I'm guessing it's hidden
somewhere relatively inaccessible.

I think I'll ask my local garage if they can turn it off via VAGCOM.

Thanks anyway.

Tim
