Default Replacing the Dizzy on a MK3 Golf 1.6 GL (AFT)

Hello,

My Mk 3 Golf GL 1.6 AFT occasionally just cuts out on me, no warning, just
as if the ignition's been turned off. It starts again if I leave it about
one minute and then runs as if nothing ever happened.

To remedy this I've just replaced the coil pack/ignition amp module as that
could be the cause.

The other likely cause is the hall sensor in the distributor. I've got a
new dizzy to fit but am unsure of the correct procedure so I don't screw up
the timing. Can any one help me out?

Cheers

Neil

Mark the old dizzy body and the head so you get the aligment of the old
one, then transfer the mark to the new one by eye. That will be enough
to get it started, then there's probably a basic timing setting that
you'll need a timing light to check- this is assuming it's like Polos of
a similar age with elctrinic managment and a dizzy with hall sender, as
I've never actually seen an AFT engine. Make sure you can get the bung
out the bellhousing over the timing marks, if they're that end- I can't
remember if the 1.6 of that age is or not. You probably need a Haynes
book to check over.
