Hi all, I'm purchasing a Golf GTI 1.8T W reg Mark 4 from Bradford and the seller has told me that the Engine mount is possibly broken or on its way out. (The Engine mount at the back of the engine). I don't know much about golfs at all but I have driven a volvo from Glasgow to London before and it survived the journey just fine. Would driving a GTI from Bradford to London be a big risk to take? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks Farrukh Why not just ask the seller to get it fixed and you will pay him when you collect the car?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - I have no idea why I didn't think of that!! I'll try that. Otherwise any other reply would be appreciated too! ![]() Thanks! ok, don't get if fixed. Drive to London, not forgetting picking up your engine around Sheffield! Or, don't buy the car. Golf's are like hookers, they are everywhere. Unless you are getting this for an absolute steal, why take the risk? Common sense if you ask me!- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Getting it for £2000 and going to fix it up and pass it on to my brother. No point in attempting to drive it if it's gonna fall apart all over the show! What year is it? Mileage? Cam belts need doing at 60k. Get yourself a mate with a laptop and vag-com. Scan the car before buying.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - It's a 2000 with 65K on the clock and full VW service history. £2000 is cheap for that.....so cheap I would be wary.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - Yeah it's actually £2200 but has been registered on the HPI as stolen/ recovered. |

Check for strange noises from the gearbox - it could be clocked. Thanks guys for all your help. It has been much appreciated. The guy I'm getting the car from specialises in buying cars from insurance companies and selling them without attempting to repair them. I've bought 4 cars off him already to repair and resell. HPI check does show stolen/recovered and has validated the mileage as have VW who have serviced the car since new. The theft damage was some of the front bumper and he says the engine mount is on its way out (at the stage where the rubber has pretty much gone but the mount is still holding). Thanks again guys! |

BTW, whilst you are picking up your car. Also check these common faults with mk4 Golf's Everything between the front and rear bumper. The above are very common on Golf's, my V6 had all of them! post corrected Oh, if the engine mount is shagged, especially on a GTi, that normally means the car has been thrashed like a red-headed stepchild.
