Default Air Bag Warning Light 2003 1.9 TDi Audi

I disconnected the battery on my 1.9 TDi 2003 Audi while changing the timing
belt. I now find that I have a Air Bag Warning light on all time. Any easy
way of resetting or do I have to go to my local friendly dealer?

If its the same as a MkIV Golf then it needs resetting - dealer or
independant with the equipment.

I got charged £35 by my small local independant garage - he blamed the
very high cost of the equipment and software.

AIUI the airbags are deactivated while the light is on .

Buy yourself a cable from ebay, £20. Download vag-com, connect to a laptop
and do it yourself.

Nice to know such software is available but, unless you can share its
use, not really a cost effective option for most of us.

Vag-Com 409.1 and VAG-COM 5.041 are both on Bit Torrent.

Whatever that is.

You don't need to download it via p2p. The shareware version is freely
available from the developers. Only restriction is you cannot save settings
and does not list the description of the faults encountered, only the fault
number (then google the fault code for the english description!)

Just need to make sure the vag-com cable available on ebay is suitable for a
2003 Audi. I have one for a mk4 golf, the latter VW/Audi's are slightly
different I think.

There's a good chance you might need a CAN-BUS cable for a post 2003 A3,
I'm afraid. It depends. If it's a very late old-shape A3, the free
download and ebay cable will be fine, for a later one, maybe not.
