Default 2001 1.6 Golf Erratic Idle

My 1.6 Golf has been suffering from erratic idle for some time and this has
persisted despite two visits to garage. I have heard that these symptoms
can be caused by a "Power Steering Switch Fault". Can anyone comment and if
true where is this switch and how do I check?.

Could be. The switch on the power steering pump tells the ecu to raise the
idle a little.
Pull the connector and see what happens. The switch is located on the pump.
