I have just checked the power steering fluid level and it appears to be low.
No sign of any leaks so I had a look in the Haynes manual to see I had followed the correct procedure which is not very clear. It states "For the check to be accurate, the engine should be at operating temp. and the steering must not be turned once the engine has stopped." I assume from this that the check is made with the engine off. It also states "If the fluid is at normal temperature, start the engine and allow to idle, then turn the front roadwheels to the straight ahead position." This seems to suggest that the check is made with the engine running. Please can anyone help me and confirm whether the check is made with the engine hot or cold, running or stopped? Any recommendation on the hydraulic oil to use would be appreciated. |

Thanks Greasy, I've now tried it all ways and the level is higher when warm. So if I keep the level somewhere near the middle between min and max when static and cold it should be OK. I'll visit my local GSF today. |
