Default '02 Golf 4motion: engine wobble/ misfire

Girlfriend has a 36K miles 2004 4motion. It is due for a service in
about 6K miles. The car generally runs fine and pulls well, but I have
just noticed something that concerned me a little:

If the engine is allowed to idle with the car in neutral and the
accelerator is then applied (either gently or fast), the car wobbles
just at the point that the RPM start to pick up. This only ocurrs
momentarily (between about 800 and 1200 RPM). Just wondering if this is
normal or whether there is a slight misfire. I haven't looked at the
air filter or plugs, leads etc., which I guess could explain things.
The sound and feel of this apparent fault certainly seems to me like a
mild version of what I experienced with a car I had some years back
with a chronic damp problem in the ignition.

Suggestions/ advice appreciated. Regards, Jim

If you've had it since new consider replacing the distributor cap and rotar
arm? or at least check condition very cheap to replace and is a wear and
tear item. Also get the timing reset this should be done every 20,000miles I
believe, my mechanic didn't charge for this when I asked him to on the
service, and yes i did notice the difference straight away.
