Default Brake questions

They suggest that the replacement caliper is topped up and bled off the
car. Is this important? What's the point?

Probably bleed easier with the car rear up in the air; never had a problem, and
it can get messy fitting calipers full of fluid. I can't think why they suggest
it, but haven't done rear calipers - just drum brake cylinders.

.....I'm not sure about GTi models, but when I changed rear wheel bearing on
our MKIII GL recently, as well as the new bearings the repair kit included
new split pin, castellated insert that fits over the retaining nut too.
